I am patient, adaptable and critical. I believe that mistakes and failures are essential in prospering growth within education, and for that, I am never…

My teaching style is a self-made one which is partially inspired by my mom and my grandmother who were also teachers. * I try to simplify things as much as possible. In fact, i believe, the most difficult thing to do is to simplify something. * I always try to include real-life examples while explaining concepts which helps the students to…

Help them learn the way they learn best. Education is extremely important, and often students that seek tuition are having troubles with the work, which is often caused by the teacher not teaching them in the way that they learn best. And that is okay, so as a tutor, I would want to see how they learn best, and help them to enjoy and achieve in…

1. Patience as every student has different levels of needs 2. Positive words: having treated my student(s) as my younger brother(s)/sister(s), I only pursue the best to them even if circumstances (grades/scores/situations) are not in their favor, I have never used the word "fail". 3.) Balance love with goals. Hence, strictness. 4.) Aside from…

Being encouraging, speaking clearly, giving comments, and keeping up students' motivation are what tutors should focus on most. The goal is to understand each student's needs and modify the approach as necessary. This will result in the student having the desire and motivation to learn, which will consequently improve their grades and increase their self-confidence. I believe that tutors should not regurgitate content students have learnt in class. Instead, tutors should guide students on how to learn more effectively through study tips. This is something I am very adamant on, as I have first-hand experienced how improving studying habits can positively impact one's academic career. My strength as a tutor is…

Give them confidence that they have the ability to be good at maths and the knowledge that they can use the methods of learning in other subjects. The most important thing that I, as a tutor, can do for my students, is to be able to get them inspired on certain subjects or topics. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to set the student up for success outside of the scheduled tutoring hours. Only so much can be achieved in the allotted tutoring sessions, therefore it is of utmost importance that the student leaves each tutoring session with a clear direction on what to study and how to effectively study…

Inside GreenbankTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Olivia tackled simple and compound interest calculations, applying formulas to practical scenarios.

In Year 11, Ethan focused on exponential growth and decay, along with an introduction to logarithms and their properties.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ava revised second derivatives—using them for graphing and motion problems—and practiced solving complex triangle questions drawn from recent classwork.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student hesitated to attempt exam-style modelling questions, even when her reasoning was correct—"she often takes the right steps but is very reluctant," as one tutor noted.

In Year 8 algebra, skipping key steps when rearranging equations led to small errors that made entire solutions fall apart.

A Year 5 learner avoided writing working for multi-step word problems, preferring mental calculation; this meant mistakes crept in unnoticed and were only found much later.

In senior statistics, over-reliance on notes and calculators left gaps in understanding, especially when faced with new calculator functions during assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Greenbank tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rely heavily on notes now solving statistics problems almost entirely from memory, even tackling tricky triangle rules with new independence.

A high schooler recently started spotting and correcting their own errors while interpreting complex questions—something they hesitated to do before—which means fewer mistakes slip through.

In a Year 4 session, a student who previously rushed her work is now talking aloud about each maths step and highlighting key details, leading her to solve three-digit subtraction problems without any help for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenbank Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boronia Heights State School.
