The most important things that a tutor can do for his/her students are: 1. Imbibe a sense of curiosity, passion and genuine interest in the subject. 2. Recognizing the strengths of the student and continuing to build on them. 3. Identifying weaknesses of the student and helping them overcome their hurdles. My strengths as a tutor: 1. Strong…

The most important things that a tutor can do is to really invest their time and energy, to believe that the student potential to be successful and doing everything they can to assist the student to reach their full potential, that it is not always about the grades or scores, but rather focusing on helping the student to achieve and do the best…

I believe the role of the tutor is to build the basic skills of english comprehension/essay writing to that the student is prepared to tackle any assignment or examination. I do not believe in rote learning but instead on delving deeply into specific issues a student may have with writing and to address them methodically. It is not about the…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, tailor their approach to meet individual needs, and provide consistent encouragement. Helping students feel confident in their abilities creates a strong foundation for learning, as they are more likely to engage actively and tackle challenges head-on.…

A teacher can be a life-saver , life-director, life-changer, guider and even a role model. Teacher is the one who will teach the students about how to live a life worthwhile. I can build their self confidence to a mark where they can achieve their goals by properly directing them. I am highly patient. I am a severe listener and i understand how…

I believe a teacher can either make or break a student and I've seen both scenarios happen around me. I believe as a tutor the most important thing I can do is boost their confidence or build it from scratch if they have no confidence at all. Be a good friend and to create a stress-free, comfortable environment for my students. I have handled a…

A tutor should be patient and supportive. Every child sets his/her own pace of doing things and sometimes they might not get it right, so it is important to be understanding. I am very patient, it doesn't matter how long it takes for a child to understand a topic, because it is quite normal. I would not mind repeating it over and over. I am also…

IN MY VIEW, JUST AS IT IS NECESSARY FOR THE DOCTOR FIRST TO DIAGNOSE THE PATIENT'S ILLNESS, SO IT IS EQUALLY NECESSARY FOR THE TEACHER TO DIAGNOSE THE STUDENT'S WEAKNESS AND DIFFICULTIES, FIRST! SO HAVING CONDUCTED A NEEDS ANALYSIS, THEN THE TUTOR SHOULD OPT FOR THE MOST APPROPRIATE APPROACH TO REMOVE THE STUDENT'S WEAKNESSES AND PROBLEMATIC…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them to learn in a way that maximises their potential. Everyone learns in a different way and I believe a tutor can find what is best for the individual. A tutor needs to be able to teach a student to be able to independently work through challenges. Whilst someone who has…

The ability to understand a student and their learning style is something I highly value in a tutor. In school classes where they are often one of many, they may find that the teaching style may not work for them and that they cannot achieve their goals. In a tutoring scenario, we are able to cater to them more specifically, to be intuitive about…

A tutor should be approachable and they should encourage students to ask each and every question they have in mind. A tutor should also be able to act like a mentor for educational and professional guide. However, it is very important for tutors to keep a professional boundary in mind. I think that as a tutor, it is important to not take the "one fits all" approach for lessons. Rather, it is important for tutors to be flexible, as the way in which students learn best varies widely. A good tutor can pick up on the learning style of their students, and subsequently adapt their lessons to ensure maximum growth and improvement. As a…

I think being a good tutor should be encouraging and passionate. And tutors should know what students need for help on their strengths and weakness. Inside Surrey HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Tom focused on advanced financial maths, tackling reducing balance loans and effective interest rates, and worked through the steps of respiration in Biology.

Year 11 student Olivia reviewed matrix operations including inverses and scalar multiplication, then applied these to communication networks using diagrams for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam practised solving quadratic equations by both factorising and graphing, building fluency with real examples from his textbook.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly hesitated to start worded and application questions, often unable to choose which formula or process was required—on her quadratics test, she left many questions blank unless prompted.

Heavy reliance on the calculator emerged in statistics; when asked to interpret answers without technology, confusion set in: "she struggled with questions that could not be directly done on her calculator."

In Year 8 algebra, one student's working became hard to follow as he crossed out and wrote over steps, occasionally losing marks despite correct answers.

During a Year 7 session, another learner gave up quickly if shortcuts weren't available and avoided writing full working, stalling progress on multi-step problems.

Recent Achievements

A Surrey Hills tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with surds now breaking them down and simplifying on her own, even catching her own mistakes—something she'd struggled with before.

In a Year 12 session, a student who previously mixed up types of interest began confidently interpreting finance graphs and distinguishing between accrued and charged interest during exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student showed new independence by asking for extra explanation on probability concepts rather than guessing quietly, which hadn't happened in earlier sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balwyn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Surrey Hills Primary School. Contact us at Ezy Math Tutoring Surrey Hills, 6a Bentley St, Surrey Hills VIC 3127, (03) 9008 7011
