I believe that a good teacher will prioritise the mindset of their student(s) before attempting to actually teach them anything. To enter the flow state prior to gaining knowledge is, in my view, of utmost importance. A tutor should find a way to ensure that their student is enjoying the learning experience. One example is, rather than explaining…

The most important thing you can do for a student is usually to inspire them, as this is the number one key to success and personal growth for them in a subject, in my opinion. Allowing students to appreciate beauty and simplicity links the value of the topics to their work in it. Of course, some students are already very passionate so for them…

The most important thing that a physics tutor can do for a student is to engage the student in a way which makes them want to keep learning that specific subject if not fall in love with it. At the end of the day motivation must come from the student themself and as a tutor I believe it is my job to help the student find that motivation. I believe…

Inside VincentTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sophia worked through simplifying index laws and integers, as well as evaluating decimals from her recent school test.

Year 10 student Isaac focused on chemistry by identifying ionic and covalent bonds in compounds and practiced determining chemical formulas for given interactions.

For a younger student, Year 6 Alex revised converting decimals to fractions and back again, alongside basic division using practical examples.

Recent Challenges

Missed multiple homework deadlines in Year 9 meant the student "could not finish her assigned Homework again," resulting in less practice with graphing and interpreting coordinates.

In Year 11 Chemistry, a learner struggled to organize digital resources, as shown by being unable to "locate the most updated version of the assessment," which caused confusion during feedback.

For a Year 8 maths session, reliance on calculators without understanding was apparent in trigonometry tasks ("needs to work out how to put her calculator to most use"), which slowed conceptual progress.

In Year 7, skipping steps in division led to sign errors that reappeared in later factorising exercises.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Vincent noticed some great progress with students recently. One high schooler, Eve, realised exactly where she'd lost marks on a recent maths test and was able to correct her mistakes after reviewing two textbook exercises together—a big shift from earlier sessions where she wasn't sure what went wrong.

Jacinta, also in high school, brought a revised essay draft to her session after working through feedback both from her teacher and the tutor; this time, she'd made clear improvements on structure and argument compared to her first version.

In Year 3, Sophia started asking questions as soon as she got stuck instead of waiting silently—this helped her solve several division problems on her own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Citylibraries Aitkenvale—or at your child's school (with permission), like Vincent State School.
