I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to foster a deep understanding of the subject matter and to build the student's confidence in their own abilities. It's crucial to create a learning environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and explore different solutions. Personalizing lessons to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make an overall postive impact. Just being an academic support for a student who is struggling can create impacts more meaningful than grades or results. Helping them change their attitude towards learning is the kind of positive change that lasts beyond the classroom. I am a really positive and…

A great tutor not only helps with immediate challenges but also teaches strategies for problem-solving and critical thinking. Creating a safe and encouraging…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is providing them with a positive experience relating to schooling which they can bring into their formal education, overall increasing their confidence, grades and mood. My main strength as a tutor is manipulating my lesson plans and the resources that I have to fit the students'…

A tutor has an integral part of a student's schooling journey. Obviously, a tutor is going to assist students with their academic needs, but there are also other important duties that a tutor must fulfill. From my own experience, I can say that a great tutor seeks to understand the student's ambitions. This includes but is not limited to…

I consider that being able to put effort into tutoring outside of tutoring sessions by collating extra materials and information suited to the student's method of learning is very important. It is also vital to ensure that the tutor works collaboratively with the student as well as the parents. Ensuring the student understands the material they…

Primarily, a tutor needs to be someone the student can depend on for sound knowledge of the content. Being a reliable, rational source of information who is able guide their students to effectively learn the content in an engaging but effective way will more often than not end up benefiting the student and help them achieve their goals. Generally…

It is important for a student and a teacher to have a respectful and fun relationship as I believe this makes the learning process not only fun for the student but easier and comfortable. I believe students become enthusiastic and look forward to learning. Being able to adapt to different personalities and learning styles of the student. I think…

It is highly important to provide the student with a support network in which the student feels confident to ask any questions and feels comfortable. I am able to simplify concepts to the point where a student can easily grasp them. I am also quite patient. If a student doesn't initially understand a concept, I am able to not only explain again…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to guide, support, and inspire them. It’s not just about helping them memorise content or score higher marks — it’s about helping them build confidence, curiosity, and the right mindset towards learning. A good tutor should create a space where students feel comfortable…

I believe, the best things a tutor can do for a student is to personalise lessons to fit the learning style of each student, help them identify their strengths and teach to their strengths. In addition, it is important for a tutor to listen and communicate often with parents – successful tutors create individualized learning plans with their…

The most important thing is that the student is comfortable with you and that the tutor is actually helping them to learn and improve. Not only should the tutor be able to improve the students scores for a particular subject, they should also be able to teach them ways to study and prepare so that the student not only knows the material for the…

Inside YurokeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Charlie focused on multiplying algebraic expressions with two brackets and reviewed key skills for working with quadratic equations, including completing the square and finding solutions.

In Year 10, Sophia revised transformations of basic quadratics, tackled quadratic inequalities, and practised using the discriminant to identify equation types.

For Year 11 Chemistry, Lucas covered redox reactions in detail and worked through galvanic cells, reinforcing concepts using exam-style practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student frequently skipped showing full working in calculations and sometimes blurted out answers without writing anything down—"Markers, especially in Year 12, always give marks for students who show their full working out." This meant some errors went unnoticed until feedback was given.

In Year 11 Biology, a learner struggled to keep long answer responses focused and relevant; including unnecessary information cost them clarity during exam preparation.

For a younger primary student, messy or incomplete homework made it hard to track progress with large number addition and subtraction. A missed session due to late arrival from a parent also interrupted learning flow.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Yuroke recently noticed that Georgi now confidently explains each stage of mitosis and meiosis using diagrams—last term she struggled to describe these processes without prompting.

In Year 10 maths, Sid showed new independence by tackling triangle congruence proofs on his own after initially hesitating and needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student was able to order numbers correctly for the first time after several tries, moving from guessing to reasoning through the process.

Last week, Sid finished his session visibly happier after working out three congruence questions independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Craigieburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Elevation Secondary College.
