Statistics Math

Statistics math is the mathematical study of the collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation and organization of data. Some consider statistics to be a distinct mathematical science rather than a branch of mathematics. Statistics focuses on gaining information from numerical data. Statistics is used in many subdivisions related to psychology, geology, sociology, weather forecasting, probability and many others. The goal of statistics is to gain understanding from data it focuses on.

o Standard deviation- a measure that is used to quantify the amount of variation or dispersion of a set of data values
o Variance- measures how far a set of numbers is spread out.
o Range- difference between the largest and smallest values

- Estimation theory – a branch of statistics that deals with estimating the values of parameters based on measured data that has a random component.

- Probability theory - the branch of mathematics concerned with probability, the analysis of random event.
