Maybe looking for a maths tutor? Maths unfortunately has a reputation for difficulty and for not being useful in "real life". This is so much so the case that there is now a national program in Australia called "Choose Maths" to help encourage our young people to treat their maths studies seriously. However, in an increasingly technological world logical thinking is becoming increasingly valued. While your teenager may be complaining that they will "never use algebra in real life", the truth is that the logical thinking and problem solving skills developed through mathematics are extremely useful. Software development, engineering, artificial intelligence, genetics, data analytics, finance, insurance ... the list can go on and on. The future requires logical thinking and the only way to develop those skills is mathematics.

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Cole has no problem speaking up when he does not understand something. He still misses some steps while solving questions but has definitely improved since we started. Sometimes he forgets where he writes his calculations and can get mixed up.
I feel like she is very intimidated my mathematics. Its very normal for students at her level to feel this way because they are exposed to a lot of concepts. However, she seems to be trying her best so I think she will eventually get better at it. She has done every assignment that I have given too. I do not know how much help she receives from parents, teachers or friends but I recommend that she does it herself without any help.
Ashleigh is doing well in algebra, she was able to take grasp of the new concepts very well as long as it was explained to her with step by step detail. I encourage her to ask more questions whenever she's not too sure about something. I realized that Ashleigh often would take guesses at whatever she's not quite sure about rather than asking and clarifying it. I will continue to encourage her ask questions and make sure she understands the details that's being taught.

At this stage we are very happy. Nick likes Tharaka and his overall attitude to maths has changed. He is quite happy to give things a go. His confidence is building.
Suparna is lovely and very patient and Sitota is very happy with her. I think it will take a good few months before we see any progress with Sitota considering her learning difficulties. All positive and we are moving forward though
Mo is a lovely girl and Ashleigh seems to be benefitting a great deal from her tutoring sessions with her. Ashleigh is fairly motivated and I'm sure by the time exams come around there will be a noticeable difference in her capabilities. Mo and Ashleigh interact quite well and Ashleigh is much more confident about what she is doing after her sessions. All in all, at this stage we couldn't be happier with the way things are going.
