We have all had the experience of a "bad teacher" and we know it's not pleasant. Often the teacher is simply a bad match for that particular student rather than being a "bad teacher" in general but in either case the student has a serious problem. This is why many parents contact us for a private tutor - their child just can't "get it" when their teacher is teaching. It's incredible how one explanation results in more confusion whereas another results in that...

It's incredible how one explanation results in more confusion whereas another results in that "aha" feeling we all love so much! It is really a matter of getting the "right" tutor and not the "best" one. We see this every day in our work. A tutor might have hundreds of hours of experience and might have received dozens of testimonials from students, however, even such a tutor doesn't click with all students. Every tutor gets bad feedback sometimes. It's all about getting the right fit and this is what we do!

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Encouraging note taking so that he may look back on his notes leading up to tests and exams which will help him to recall writing strategies and techniques. Also working on his confidence with his writing so that he doesn't feel too discouraged by his performance in his first semester which was likely his lack of attendance rather than a lack of ability.
Renee's attitude towards tutoring sessions is satisfactory overall, attempting to understand the material. Renee tries to understand the concepts being explained and practice examples which is great, although sometimes her focus is less sustained. It is hard to tell thus far but it seems like Renee could be doing more work, which is necessary to improve her marks. She would likely also benefit from having a more organised notes system.
Nathan shows quite a strong understanding in the topic of measurement and geometry. Nathan could improve on the way he sets out his working out when answering questions. By writing down all the information and starting new lines for new information, his answers would be much clearer and easier to understand.
Matthew seems to be of to a good start. Vivian seems to have the competence and patience that other tutors have not had. We are happy to continue working with Vivian and hopefully Matt will eventually show signs of improvement.
I'm very pleased with Carly at this stage Nerys' attitude towards Math has changed already and that's extremely positive. Carly is always there on time and stays the full hour, she also communicates effectively about any schedule changes. So far so good.
Thank you for your email. Based on the sessions held to date with Ai-linh, Nathan is really enjoying her teaching style. From my perspective she is really sweet and is always punctual and consistent which has really maximised Nathan's learning and our ability to plan for effectively. Thank you for arranging for Ai-linh to assist Nathan.
