Struggling academically while seeing others succeed can feel disheartening. It may seem as though "successful students" have it easy, as if solutions just pop into their head. Seeing the cycle of success cycling round and round for others can seem like natural talent. Geniuses do exist but most successful students are just normal people who have somehow learned how to succeed academically. Good news! Success leaves clues. These students tend to be prepared, to do their homework & regular revision....

Good news! Success leaves clues. These students tend to be prepared, to do their homework & regular revision. They focus on comprehension not on memorization. Most importantly they have growth mindset not a fixed mindset - failures are an opportunity for growth not proof of inadequacy.

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
At the start of our lessons Jett showed a good understanding of mathematics principles. He tends to go through talking aloud and seeking understanding as viable strategies which is important. He tends to however opt to do the questions in his head rather than using pen to paper strategy but over time he should be able to understand the relevance and importance of pen to paper.
Emma: Has a can do attitude, interested to understand Amy isn't defensive, but gives up a bit too fast. Admits when she isn't sure how to do something, which is good. Emma: Puts in good effort. Always picks harder questions Amy: Shows good effort. Emma: Got her a rule book, which is good. her writing is really tiny and may become confusing (for her or for the teacher who checks the work) Amy needs to start on the rule book. It would really help her and make the revision easierÂ
Problem areas are more so prominent in English rather than math. Once I have shown him how to do a math problem a couple of times he is able to keep going and do the rest on his own with little more assistance, which is great for his further development in maths. In English he could work on reading more, and not only sounding out words he doesn't know, but also asking what they mean so he can broaden his vocabulary all the time rather than just when he is with me.

Sophie has been good so far, Barnaby seems happy with her teaching method. She is a very nice, pleasant young lady, who seems to know all about maths and the curriculum.
Yes we are very happy with Nuradha. He is extremely friendly, very reliable and my son has connected with him well. I will definitely keep you informed of our progress.
