What do I enjoy most about tutoring?
It pleases me to know that I am helping other students to achieve their full potential. Helping other people always makes me very happy. I also enjoy the subjects that I offer tutoring for (maths, biology, chemistry) so naturally tutoring becomes an enjoyable experience. Meeting new people roughly the same age as me and making new friends also makes tutoring very enjoyable.
My Strengths as Tutor
Explaining particular concepts or methods in depth in a way that is easily understood, demonstrating valid "shortcuts" to make the problem less confusing. My university course has many crossovers with what I tutor in, and often repeats VCE content but in further depth, so I can use my knowledge from university to help explain concepts better. Occasionally I have some facts or background knowledge to further engage the student. Also I offer relatively cheap fees, and extra resources come at no additional cost.
Most important things I can do for a student
A tutor must be able to adjust their lesson style to suit the needs of the student. When I begin tutoring a new student, I always ask what they need and so my lesson style largely depends on the needs of the student. Tutors should also find a regular time slot during the week that can suit both the tutor and the student. Responsiveness to messages is also paramount so that communication between the tutor and student outside of lessons is easy. Tutors should first focus on allowing the student to understand the concepts, then put these concepts into practice.
