What do I enjoy most about tutoring?
I love the reward of giving students the confidence and tools to help them thrive. My student who was studying for the UMAT originally came to me quite nervous. Half the challenge tutoring her was to give her the courage that she had the ability to do very well. When I saw her on the day the UMAT results were released, I had this overwhelming feeling that my encouragement and what I taught her had allowed her to succeed and get that step closer to achieving her dream. This feeling that you've helped someone achieve something so important to them is what I enjoy most about tutoring.
My Strengths as Tutor
In all aspects of my life I am a very persistent person, and this is no different in my approach to tutoring. If something doesn't work well I'm quick to reassess the situation and try many methods to find out what works best for each student. As well as being persistent, I'm very patient, something which is so important in tutoring, especially of younger years. Lastly, I am very encouraging. Like everyone else, I know what it's like to doubt yourself, and therefore know what it takes to instil confidence in students.
Most important things I can do for a student
As mentioned previously, besides providing students with the tools they need to do well, one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them find their confidence. By teaching and reinforcing concepts students will feel confident with basic principles, and upon this platform, they can be challenged with harder concepts. Tackling these tasks whilst supporting them emotionally, and encouraging them to give their all is what together will assist them to feel more confident.
