What do I enjoy most about tutoring?
I like being able to share my knowledge with other people as well as reinforcing my own understanding of it. I like being challenged by the questions I got asked and helping students solve problems so that in the end we both feel the sense of satisfaction from overcoming a challenge. I am motivated by seeing students change from being baffled to feeling like they have accomplished something by understanding a concept that has eluded them before.
My Strengths as Tutor
I am very patient at explaining and are quick to realize if the student is lost in the middle of my explanation. I am very flexible and adaptable, so I can reorganize and adapt my teaching methods to suit the students better. For some students, I will explain with drawings, but for some others, I may use analogies instead. I also check their understanding of a concept, not only the knowledge of how to do a specific type of question.
Most important things I can do for a student
The most important thing a I can do for a student is to make the subject look easier instead of harder. It's easy for students to feel discouraged and feel like they just want to get it done and over with, which is not how learning works. A tutor should be able to give students more confidence instead of making them dependent on the tutor out of fear of failing the subject. By being confident, students can build a "self-fulfilling prophecy" from being more focused and more motivated to learn. Then, they will be able to do their best and achieve more.
