What do I enjoy most about tutoring?

I love being able to share what I've learned over the past four years of my education, especially with people who are passionate or will find it essential in their own education. As someone with a passion for math and science, being able to pass on my knowledge to younger interested people and kids makes me feel like I'm making a difference. I'm firmly of the belief that if you can inspire even one person to pursue a productive career in math or science, it can make an entire teaching career worth-while.

My Strengths as Tutor

I think my patience and understanding are my biggest assets as a tutor. I like taking a very open and encouraging approach to teaching; I believe that if you can make coursework interesting and enjoyable for kids then they'll not only retain that information for tests and assignments but also into the rest of their studies. Additionally I make a point of engaging students and trying to make them reach conclusions on their own before moving on if I believe they know enough to question the topic independently.

Most important things I can do for a student

The most important thing a tutor can do by far is inspire the student. A tutor could spend hours every day with a student meticulously combing through course material, but it will never have the same effect as truly teaching a student to love the work and cultivating their discovery of a passion for their studies. As someone who comes from a school with very few resources and even fewer caring teachers it's the inspiration I learned from the few teachers who did care that has taken me to where I am today, and I take pride in passing that on to more people who need it.
