What do I enjoy most about tutoring?
For me, tutoring provides a relationship between tutor and student where there is an opportunity for learning that might not be available inside a classroom. I take great satisfaction in directing a student towards genuinely understanding an idea and take even greater pride in seeing students convert these understandings into practical measures (such as answering examination questions or writing an essay). I enjoy tutoring because it allows a student to express where they need the most attention which in-turn enables me to address their learning process specifically and individually.
My Strengths as Tutor
I believe my primary attributes that make me a good tutor are my patience, judgement and approachability.
Patience is a trait required of any tutor but one which, I believe, also needs to be balanced with a sense of encouragement and drive. As a tutor, I would allow my students to take all the time they need to understand and grasp a concept. However, when it comes to test or examination conditions, I would try teach my students to apply their understandings in a manner that is appropriate to the time constraints.
My judgement is a strength that would make me an efficient and personal tutor.
Most important things I can do for a student
A tutor can be a mentor that personalises a student's learning experience. A tutor is able to approach each student in a way that specifically caters to their experience and can therefore provide a teaching process that addresses the specific needs of each student.
A tutor's approachability in answering questions and pushing students to ask questions is vital in the learning experience. For students to truely understand a concept, they must question any areas which they don't fully grasp and a tutor is available to address these concerns directly.
