What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
My favourite thing about tutoring is the moment a student understands a concept. Once they've understood it, they become motivated to attempt the question with their new profound knowledge & understanding. Seeing my students understand concepts that I've explained to them is extremely rewarding. When they comprehend the subject matter, they can do their homework more competently, in result perform better on their test, and subsequently improve their grade. It is the most rewarding experience for myself & for the student to see them succeed.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
As a tutor, I think it's very important I am able explain content to the student adequately & clearly. I find many students have difficulty answering homework questions because of the lack in understanding basic concepts of a lesson. I always like to give a backstory before diving into a question, for example listing the trigonometric identities before attempting the question. I like to use analogies when possible, and show students helpful tips on remembering content. I always like to show students various ways in solving questions (if applicable) and answer questions in a systematic method.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
As a tutor, the most important thing I can do for a student is to be relatable, patient, and friendly. I think back to when I was in the student's position learning the same material. I ask myself: what did I need at the time to help me better understand the content more clearly? Keeping this in mind, I find it's much easier to explain content to a student so they can comprehend it better. It is important to be patient with the student as everyone learns at different speeds, sometimes extra explanations are required or presenting the initial explanation in a different manner.

Emma did well understanding the concepts. We worked on how the mean, median, & mode change when new data is introduced.

Emma needs to read a question carefully and think about what the question is asking. Sometimes she makes decisions too quickly which leads to mistakes

Phoebe did a good job interpreting the bar graphs. Writing down some things when solving the questions really helped her. We repeated one module and at the end she got a gold medal, which she said she had never got before!
Phoebe needs to work on her multiplication more.
Emma did a good job breaking down the question. Her mental math is good.

Emma is able to solve the question in her head, but sometimes she doesn't show her work, so we discussed how to go about doing that in the proper way, which a teacher would expect to see.
