Finding a suitable maths tutor for your child can be difficult. Where do you start? What do you look for? Experience? Personality? Someone local? Should they teach their own content or work on your child's current school work? How often should you have tutoring? How long should each session be? Is a particular time of the day more effective than other times? So many questions, but, after years and years of experience, we can assure you there is no on-size-fits-all answer. Tuition is an individual matter....

So many questions, but, after years and years of experience, we can assure you there is no on-size-fits-all answer. Tuition is an individual matter. It's really about finding someone who is a good match for your specific situation. That means a good personality match + a teaching style that matches the student's learning style + a good balance between empathy and authoritativeness + many other things.
Unfortunately no tutor profile can tell you if the tutor will be a good match. You won't know that until you see them working together.
It usually doesn't take us more than a few days to organise a maths tutor in Woolwich. And, we really want you to love your tutor! That's why your first lesson works as a trial. Don't think the match is good? We'll organise someone else...

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Yasmin has some solid learning strategies, including talking aloud, pen to paper, desire for understanding, avoiding lazy thinking and not being defensive. Learning strategies that are close to satisfactory are back checking, note taking, good corrections, positive self talk, seeking teacher for help, avoiding rule dependency, problem solving skills, belief in self and that it is okay to be wrong. Her self questioning and lateral thinking are close to being satisfactory.
Jack has been trying hard during tutorials over the last month and has made some good progress. However, the results from the HSC preliminary have diminished his confidence which we will need to get back for the finals.
Problem Areas: She has not completed the homework on 2 lessons (lesson 4 and 5) due to other homework from school and other tutoring places. In narrative writing, she writes on too many events within the story which takes away time from focusing on language techniques and 'Show and NOT tell'. Best to focus on 3 sequence of events (at the maximum). Needs to speak more in the class. Doesn't ask enough questions.

Thank you. So far so good. Sarah is very approachable and friendly, quick to respond to emails etc. and has a great collaborative style. Jake, who was skeptical of tutoring at first, has found the sessions very useful.
We are delighted with Charlie as Gabrielle's tutor. He has been prompt, polite, pleasant and extremely helpful. Within 2 sessions I could see her confidence in attacking problem solving questions had improved and approach to Maths in general.
Tammy is great. She has a friendly manner and she is enthusiastic at every session. Lucy seems to like her and she has some great methods for teaching. She engages Lucy and makes the sessions fun and interesting bringing things along to help Lucy understand what she is trying to teach her. She is concentrating on what Lucy's weaknesses are while thinking ahead for Lucy for year 7. From my observations of the sessions I think she will help Lucy enormously. I am very happy with Tammy to date and hope that she is happy to continue on with Lucy
