Give them confidence! Students often require a tutor not only because they cannot cope with content, but because they have a lack of confidence in the subject. I have a lot of experience in working with students, allowing me to understand them better and therefore be able to effectively help and teach them. I am also continually engaging in…

Physics Tutor Henley Brook, WA
A tutor needs to be able to explain the same thing 100 different ways and still be able to put a student at ease, ensuring them that their learning journey is unique and the tutor is willing to hold their hand at every step. I was in their position once, as someone who was passionate about my subject areas but wasn't achieving the grades I new I…

Definitely listening to our students. While we are there to teach them and help them along, each student is different and learns in a different way. Through previous tutoring experiences, I found that when I asked my students "What works for you?" or "How could we improve how we do our lessons?" and listening to what the students say and…

The tutor was punctual, communicated well and explained the content clearly to my daughter.

Inside CavershamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jazmine worked on division using hands-on games with tokens and also reviewed her 4 times tables, while another session focused on reading analogue clocks and practising setting different times.

Year 8 student Myra explored mixed, proper, and improper fractions for her upcoming test, then tackled addition and subtraction of decimals as well as time word problems to strengthen confidence in new topics.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sarah concentrated on surd conversion, addition and subtraction before moving into indices and applying index laws to more complex algebraic questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student entered a test without his prepared notes, relying heavily on memory and needing constant reference to incomplete materials—he has lost a lot of the notes that I gave him to review for his test.

In Year 8 algebra sessions, another student repeatedly forgot steps discussed earlier in the lesson, which made solving multi-step equations much harder without examples to follow.

For a primary student, distraction during time-telling activities led to confusion with terms like "quarter past," as she often guessed rather than processed the question.

In each case, missing organization or not pausing to process led directly to lost confidence and missed answers.

Recent Achievements

A Caversham tutoring session with a Year 10 student saw him shift from quietly following along to confidently explaining the laws of indices out loud, even pausing to ask for clarification when unsure—something he hesitated to do before.

Another high schooler made noticeable strides in algebra; she now completes all her homework independently and comes ready to discuss which questions tripped her up, instead of leaving them blank.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously relied on fraction circles for every question surprised her tutor by correctly placing improper fractions on a number line without any physical aids.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Guildford Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caversham Valley Primary School.
