I believe in these times students lack I confidence and motivation of what learning really is about. They are continuously forced to learn new concepts quickly and they This works to a certain extent but I would pass on my knowledge as a friendly tutor giving the students clear explanations and the reason to learn. At the same time, I will…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. A tutor should also be patient, adaptable, and able to explain concepts in ways that match the student’s learning style. Beyond academics, I think…

Build confidence, create a supportive environment, and teach in a way that makes sense to the student. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is actually pay attention to how a student is thinking, not just if they're getting the answer right or wrong. A lot of the time you can tell where the misunderstanding is just by the way they’re approaching a question. So being able to pick that up and respond in the moment is really…

A tutor should be able to help clear each and every notion that the student has about a certain topic. They should not get tired of explaining concepts on repeat. A good tutor should always be consistent and take note of what their student does. They should regularly follow up on lesson plans and make sure that the student is not burdened by any…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to ensure that the child fully understands the lesson, and finds purpose in it. The student should not only study it because it is a requirement, but because they find it interesting, This I believe is a very crucial task for tutors. If a child is passionate about a subject, they will automatically study…

I realised that the real challenge often isn't the students' abilities but their engagement with the content. I consider the most important attributes that a tutor can have for a student is the ability to listen, to be patient, and to be able to explain concepts and questions in more ways than one. A tutor is a guide for a student. Someone who can guide the students well and bring out the best in them. Most important would definitely be effort towards a student. A tutor should be engaging, understanding and patient. They should strengthen students understandings in topics where they may be struggling. Tutors should motivate students to try their absolute best at all times. Inside GlenfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel focused on circle area and perimeter, followed by practising volume of prisms using visual examples.

For Year 10, Priya worked through simultaneous equations and quadratic equations, applying these to exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Tom tackled logarithms alongside algebraic manipulation, with a focus on breaking down complex problems into manageable steps.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled to create finance equations for loans, as noted: "needs to complete maths assignment and work more on financial maths questions," but had not completed key homework, making it hard to build fluency.

In Year 8 algebra, skipping written steps caused sign errors; a tutor observed "he must make his working out clear, and do all the steps before coming to his answer."

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student often left addition and subtraction tasks unfinished—sometimes forgetting materials—which slowed progress in class.

Confidence dropped when questions became difficult, leading one student to guess rather than show their thinking.

Recent Achievements

A Glenfield tutor noticed a big shift in one Year 10 student who used to make frequent mistakes on algebra problems; after practising clearer working out, he now finishes questions with fewer errors and actively asks for help when stuck instead of guessing.

In chemistry, a senior high school student surprised herself by independently tackling tough amide and amine exam questions she'd struggled with last term.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who previously hesitated to speak up started verbalising confusion during area lessons—she even tackled circle area questions enthusiastically and asked for extra practice without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenquarie Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hurlstone Agricultural High School.
