I believe the most integral part of tutoring is to find the best ways your particular student can learn and understand. Once this is achieved, all the other aspects like explaining the content and going through exercises will fall into place more easily. When you know how your student learns best, they will be able to apply those methods…

I consider encouragement, feedback and trust to be an important part of tutoring. The teacher should support the learner to become more confident in their own academic capabilities, giving them timely and accurate feedback. Also, it is just as important to build positive relationships with your students so they can come to you with their problems…

The most important thing for a tutor is to first understand the strengths and weaknesses of his student and then use his/her strengths as a tool to minimize his/her weaknesses. I can present almost everything as simple analogies which makes them easy to understand and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understand the students needs and deliver the learning material in such a way that the student can grasp the concepts at hand. It is also important to provide and maintain continual support to them in order to aid their growing knowledge and ability. My strengths as a tutor are displayed…

Teaching correct thing is really important. A teacher should be inspiring role model. For any tutor, it is important that they set correct example in front of the student, so that along with the regular studies, they can become a responsible person. I am specialized in entry exams preparations. My teaching style is unique. I build a strong…

To connect with their students, so the student has no problem whatsoever asking you any questions at all. The tutor should also be patient and try his level best to explain all that he knows that might help the student. - Highly organized and dedicated. - I work with a positive attitude. - I always listen what the student has to say. - I…

Inside Keilor NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Evangeline focused on angles—naming, drawing, and identifying parallel and transverse lines—before starting foundational algebra skills.

In Year 10, Leah worked through financial mathematics by exploring compound interest and reducing balance loans using a financial calculator.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Daniel concentrated on graphs and networks, covering topics like shortest paths and network diagrams with worked examples from his textbook.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student arrived unprepared—without textbook, pen, or paper—and showed low motivation despite confidently giving incorrect answers. "He was sure of his work but had left everything at school," noted the tutor.

For a Year 10 student, untidy and incomplete notes slowed revision and led to last-minute cramming before assessments; an exercise book was even lent as a model for improvement.

In Year 7 maths, not bringing materials home meant lesson time was lost improvising instead of consolidating skills.

When homework is skipped or materials forgotten, progress stalls and small misunderstandings persist into test situations.

Recent Achievements

A Keilor North tutor noticed Kristian, a high school student, has begun taking more initiative with his maths—he's now using a new exercise book to organise notes and complete exercises separately, which he hadn't done before.

In another recent session, Evangeline (Year 7) independently wrote her own summary sheet ahead of a test, marking a shift from passive listening to actively preparing for assessments.

Meanwhile, Abbey in Year 4 showed clear improvement: after struggling with multiplication last week, she tackled similar problems this time with greater confidence and started working on division without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sydenham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Catholic Regional College North Keilor.
