With experience and knowledge, a tutor can become the driving force to help the students succeed in their lives. In my opinion, the most important thing, that a tutor can do for the student is to understand the problems which the student is facing, and then come up with a plan on how to overcome these problems. Apart from this, understanding the knowledge graph of the student, and teaching him/her according to the pattern, which they understand the most, is…

A good tutor will be patient as well as a good listener. Addressing the students' queries, errors with honesty yet with empathy. A good tutor should be willing to be dynamic in their teaching style, so as to engage the learners. Additionally, a tutor should be willing to share their own experiences and draw parallels with their students. I…

Motivating the student and teaching him according to his own pace is of upmost importance. Also, it is crucial that the student's marks are improving and he starts to develop a liking for that subject. I find great pleasure in teaching and has the patience to teach each student according to his own pace. I also finding that motivating the student…

The first and foremost is being patient. Not everyone can learn and understand concepts at the same pace, so patience is very important. Trying different learning styles when the initial learning style doesn't work is another one, because people don't learn the same way. I'm very good at breaking down complex concepts into clear,…

I feel tutor plays an important role in every student's life. As a student by myself, I feel the urge for proper guidance to solve the assignments. Letting know the student about following the right rule and ways to get solution is highly required. Guiding the student step by step without loosing the confidence level in solving the problems is…

I think the most important thing I can do for a student is to help them feel better about their learning and inspire within them a passion for education. Through this, I believe that I'm setting students up for future success by showing them how exciting and engaging learning is, and the study skills necessary to pursue this. But more importantly,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with the tools to be able to confidently work through academic problems on their own. In an English context this can mean teaching a student how to deconstruct what is required by a question, or giving them the skills to analyse a text for thematic and technical…

I believe that it is paramount for a tutor to understand that every student learns differently and therefore may need a different approach to studying to achieve their goals. A tutor should ask their student how they learn best and implement this feedback into their approach to tutoring. Similarly, it is important to understand that each student…

In my opinion, the most important things a tutor can do for a student would be to build confidence and make learning approachable according to the learning style of the student. The most important thing a tutor - or any teacher - can do is spark a genuine desire to learn, rather than making learning feel like a requirement. When students are encouraged to personally connect with a subject, its quirks and intricacies, they stop seeing learning as a chore and start seeing it as something they truly enjoy. I'm really good at…

I have a positive attitude even when the student is wrong, I correct them by not saying that they were wrong but by picking up the same topic and explaining it in the correct manner. Inside KooyongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Sophia revised direct and inverse variation, using real-life problem examples to reinforce concepts.

For Year 11, James focused on logarithms and non-linear data transformations, building confidence through step-by-step graph interpretation.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ethan practised applying the sine and cosine rules as well as calculating the area of triangles, working through targeted exam-style questions for advanced understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student often forgot to bring homework from school, which meant valuable lesson time was spent trying to recall missed questions rather than reviewing their working.

In a senior Methods session, another student relied heavily on their calculator for simple algebraic manipulation; as noted, "she jumped straight to the calculator for every step," which led to gaps in understanding and made it harder to spot errors during revision.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student's written work in long division was sometimes messy and hard to follow—making it challenging to trace where mistakes occurred.

Recent Achievements

One Kooyong tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to ask for help, now requests clarification when confused instead of guessing—this shift has led to far fewer errors in her equations.

A Year 11 student, previously reliant on hints for data analysis tasks, derived a regression line solo using their calculator last session and checked their result against the class example.

In Year 4, a student who used to forget spelling lists between sessions recalled all ten new words without prompting and even volunteered to write them out at the start of the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Boroondara Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like SEDA College (Victoria) - Hawthorn Talented Player Program (TPP).
