I feel above all, it is important for a tutor to invest in the success of the student. to make sure that the student not only walks away with an understanding of the concepts being taught, but to make sure the student is empowered with the ability to be able to carry out that skill both in class and in an exam type situation. I think my hard work…

The most important thing will be to help the student find his/her interest in the subject. If they don't believe they can do it or that what they're learning is actually beneficial, they're only ever going to treat it as something they have to do. It'll be difficult for them to reach their potential in the subject. My strengths would be ability to…

The most important a tutor can do for a student is that they make sure the student knows that they are just as capable to be independent and build confidence in their own abilities; furthermore, they should give the students a chance to study in the most effective way based on their own individual learning styles and thought process. Inside RockleaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Sam worked through simultaneous equations and expanded brackets, focusing on clear step-by-step solutions.

For Year 11, Ava tackled trigonometric functions including sine and cosine waves using unit circles, as well as converting between degrees and radians.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jack concentrated on differentiation rules—specifically the chain rule, quotient rule, and product rule—to strengthen calculus foundations with targeted examples from recent assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student repeatedly lost track of numbers mid-calculation during algebra tasks; as the tutor noted, "numbers would slip out of her head as she was solving problems and she would have to backtrack," which often led to correct concepts but wrong answers.

In a Year 8 session, a student fell back on simply adding or multiplying any given numbers when stuck, instead of working through problem steps—a short-term crutch that limited deeper understanding.

After-school fatigue in a senior student left him freezing up or disengaged at key moments, making it harder to complete multi-step questions under pressure.

Recent Achievements

In a Rocklea tutoring session, Zoe, a high schooler with ADHD and dyscalculia, experimented with colour-coded notes and visual cues—she now finds it easier to interpret complex expressions and even solved cross multiplication problems that previously tripped her up.

Shakya, also in high school, showed a shift from uncertainty to self-reliance; despite being unwell, she completed all her homework independently and applied linear equations to real-world scenarios like GPS signals.

Meanwhile, Rama in Year 5 surprised her tutor by generating creative sentences quickly when prompted—something she'd hesitated with before—and spelling advanced words without help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Corinda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rocklea State School.
