Be able to understand that not every student is the same. Everyone's unique and their learning styles are different, so approaching every student with the same method to teach is not a good idea. Making sure to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of each individual student and tutor according to their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, the…

Developing the ability to analyse problem independently to get the sense of achievement , therefore they will be interested in conquer the problems. A tutor should connect with a student and approach problems in a way best for the student rather than what a tutor is more familiar with. With many problems, there are a variety of ways to go about it. The ability to adapt for the student to best understand it is important. I believe that I am good at describing solutions in a variety of ways to…

Listen to the student. I firmly belive that students know where they lack and what's stopping them from achieving their goals. Ensure the student doesn't lose hope or motivation to study. It is imperative that students get enough time and space to practically apply what they learn in ways that pique their interests. As a tutor I strive to first…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them to learn on their own. Although the 1-2 hours per week that a tutor spends with a student is incredibly important, the student needs to learn how to study and work on their own in order to be successful in their studies. By taking a student through a task step by step, you are…

Most Important is student's individual evaluation. A proper Strength-weakness analysis followed by relevant corrective measures can bore right results. Further a Tutor can mentor the student both academically and emotionally to boost the morale. This can can instill confidence and help the student to think logically and inculcate creativity and…

Equip them with the ability to eventually solve problems independently. At the end of the day, the role of tutoring is to help students foster independent thinking so they can overcome academic challenges on their own, because being self-sufficient is important. Also, I try to foster enthusiasm in the subjects being taught, so students can…

Build their confidence as much as their knowledge. A lot of students who struggle aren't actually bad at the subject they've just convinced themselves they are. Fixing that mindset matters as much as getting the right answer. I'm good at breaking down complex problems step by step without overcomplicating it. I also don't make students feel stupid…

The most important things a tutor can do firstly include, boosting the student's confidence. Secondly, communicating concepts in a fashion that the student understands. And thirdly, creating an environment in which the student will feel free to ask questions and make mistakes. My strengths are clear explanations in a structured manner, patience,…

1. I strongly believe that a tutor plays an important role helping a student to discover their passion and purpose 2. Always motivate and engage students, promote self-believe and create interesting lesson plans 3. Identify how each of the students learn best (i.e. visual, auditory or a combination of both) and then teach them strategies…

Easy to organise and great tutor!

Inside SandringhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Ben practised solving integer equations and converting fractions to decimals, using worked examples for clarity.

Year 10, Maya reviewed the application of differentiation principles to kinematics, focusing on velocity versus speed and using the chain rule.

For Year 11, Tom worked through linear equations with CAS technology and started reviewing simple and compound interest calculations in preparation for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

Across several year levels, incomplete homework and organization have limited progress: one Year 8 student "didn't remember much in terms of LCM and HCF from last week," with homework left unfinished.

In Years 9–10, written work was sometimes messy or unclear—setting out in algebra and fraction tasks was flagged as needing improvement.

A Year 11 student used the CAS calculator for even simple sums rather than practicing manual computation, making it harder to spot errors or build confidence.

During a recent test, a senior student's stress led to forgotten methods and difficulty recalling processes under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Sandringham noticed a big shift with one Year 10 student who, after struggling to write out her working, now uses a step-by-step "talk aloud" strategy and completes practice tests much more neatly.

In Year 12 maths, another student recently scored 81% on a tech-free SAC and is getting better at checking the wording of each question to avoid losing marks for careless mistakes—something that had tripped him up before.

Meanwhile, a primary student who found analogue time confusing can now confidently read times past the hour without needing reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sandringham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Firbank Grammar School - Sandringham Campus.
