I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence and adapt lessons to their learning style. For example, I often use practical examples such as real-life applications of forces and motion (e.g. seat belts in car) in Physics to help students better understand difficult concepts rather than relying only on…

i believe the most important thing a tutor can do for there student is to know the content, formulas and multiple approaches of applying the content so that the student can learn the content in the approach that suit them. I believe that my current knowledge and use of both math and physics in my current engineering degree would assist me greatly…

Listening to the student, instead of simply talking at the student. Helping the student gain a mindset for actively learning the material and developing confidence in the subject. Lastly, creating a rapport for the student and a good learning environment. My strengths would be an ability to listen to the student and then try approaches that seem…

Help them develop the skills they need to learn, not just teach them specific material. When a student feels confident in their own ability to understand and excel at new things they will enjoy the learning process more. These skills will stay with them forever and will help them learn in any context. I am highly personable and empathetic. This…

Tghe most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel comfortable with the subject. if a person is intimidated by a subject, they will never be able to learn efficiently. by removing the air of mystique from the subject, the student will grow in confidence and ability is sure to follow. Patience. Once we know something, it's easy to forget how we actually learnt that content. Therefore, it's important to always be persistent with someone's learning, and to never just keep using the same method then give up. Another aspect is structure. If you give students an expectation and guidance in what they need to do, it's more…

I believe that the two most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to help them gain a passion for their studies, and to teach them to apply their study skills to all of their subjects. I think that these two factors can really help students succeed with school and allow them to reach their full potential elsewhere in life. One of…

A tutor can help forming the most fundamental and strong knowledge base of the student, by guiding him/her rightly. That knowledge base is a foundation of major learning concepts in future. A tutor doesn't only literate the student, but plays a major role in educating one. I can explain a concept to the student in the simplest terms. My friendly…

Academic and mental prepartion aside, a tutors main role is to make the student see the beauty in the subject. Helping them grow, both academically and in extracurricular aspects. I think a good tutor will be supportive of the student no matter what level they are at. If they get something wrong, always support them to discover the correct answer in a way that will help them learn. Rather than tell them how to do something exactly, help them learn how they can discover the solutions themselves, as someone wont always be…

To really understand where the student is coming from. Far too often throughout my own life I have been frustrated with the way in which teachers and tutors treat you as just another student and bulldoze you with an answer before you've even managed to get you question out. Inside TravancoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Max focused on multiplying and dividing mixed numbers, converting between improper fractions and decimals, and practised placing decimal points accurately during operations.

In Year 8, Lola tackled triangle side length and angle problems using trigonometric formulae like arcsin, as well as analysing literary themes and preparing essay arguments for her assessment on Brave New World.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Max reviewed substitution into graph formulae, worked through coordinate geometry questions involving negative number laws and exponentials, and reinforced his understanding by reading textbook problems aloud.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student often skipped back-checking their work on fractions and division, leading to repeated errors—he tries to add and subtract denominators, as he always forgets to first find a common denominator.

In VCE Chemistry, exam revision was left until the last minute, causing stress and limited time for consolidation.

Meanwhile, in Year 10 English, another student hesitated to express opinions in essays and defaulted to quoting texts instead of expanding on their own ideas. This pattern resulted in less developed arguments during class discussions and slower essay planning under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Travancore noticed Violet, a senior student, has started coming to each session with her own targeted questions and is now quick to ask for clarification when she's unsure—something she hesitated to do before.

In Year 9 maths, Max showed new independence by reading content himself first and diving straight into homework without prompting, which made the lesson more productive than usual.

For a younger student, Matthew breezed through a reading comprehension task that used to slow him down, showing how his practice is making these activities much smoother.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Flemington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Flemington Primary School.
