The most important things a tutor can do are: 1. Provide a safe and supportive environment where the student feels comfortable sharing their concerns. This helps to identify the student’s preferred learning style and areas to focus on. 2. Give the student the tools they need to learn on their own. Instead of just giving solutions, a tutor…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to explain concepts they are confused with in a way that is suited to their individual learning style. This can be achieved by spending some initial time to learn about the students subject weaknesses and strengths to understand how they learn and tailoring the teaching style to suit…

Go at a pace in which the student feels comfortable, as going too quickly may be the reason they didn't understand it when their teachers taught them. Following this a tutor needs to have done some work on the subject before seeing the student as if the tutor doesn't understand what he/she is saying, the student has no chance. Also going through…

To be able to enable to student to think, and answer hard questions when all else has failed. A tutor shouldn't teach a student but rather guide them to asking the right questions and figuring out the right paths to take in order to get the information that they need. I have only recently finished school, this allows me insight to a more updated…

Inside WillawongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Priya focused on interpreting contour maps and applying bearings to real-world navigation problems.

In Year 10, James worked through finding solutions of simultaneous equations by graphing and reviewed statistical concepts like mean, median, and mode using practice questions.

For Year 12, Alisha tackled advanced calculus topics including integration techniques and partial fractions, as well as differential equations in the context of modelling motion.

Recent Challenges

Lesson notes from both Year 7 and Year 11 sessions reveal a consistent issue with incomplete written reports or missing homework.

For example, in a recent Year 11 session, "A few questions were left," suggesting that some assigned work was not finished, which limited opportunities for targeted feedback.

In a Year 7 lesson, the absence of a written report meant progress couldn't be tracked or reviewed at home. This sometimes led to confusion about what needed revision before tests—one tutor noted, "just had some confusion" when previous learning wasn't clearly documented.

Recent Achievements

A Willawong tutor recently noted a big step forward for a Year 10 student who completed all her maths assignment computations independently, after previously needing regular prompting to stay on track.

In another session with a Year 7 student, the tutor observed that she now asks questions when stuck instead of waiting passively—something she hadn't done before.

A younger primary student managed to finish every question within the set time limit for the first time, having struggled with focus and speed in earlier lessons.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Inala Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Australian International Islamic College.
