The tutor should be able to teach more and better than what the student can learn at school. The most important thing they can do is teach a concept efficiently in a way that is tailored to the student to help them get ahead of their peers. - strong knowledge of the syllabus - good at writing - dynamic approach to teaching; using multiple…

Personally, in my high school experience, I was placed in the top Mathematics Methods class and therefore felt uncomfortable asking questions in such a competitive environment. Thus, my tutoring experience provided me with a safe space to propose any difficulties that I was experiencing in class, which is what I believe is the most important thing…

Encourage them to pursue their dreams. Teach them to be lifelong learners. I believe you have completely understood the concept when you can simplify it entirely. So, the student should totally grasp the concepts at hand. A tutor can help the student realize their passions, and help them achieve it. Making the students interested in the subject by…

The most important thing to me is creating the networks for students to think for and teach themselves whenever our time is up. It's the classic saying, "give a man a fish he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll eat for his whole life". A tutor should, like any good teacher, provide the student with the tools to critically evaluate…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them to understand basics and inner workings of a topic thoroughly enough that they feel intuition regarding it, and are able to build upon this foundation to further develop ideas independently. My biggest strength as a tutor is my writing ability. I am able to help students…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student is provide them the information which is accurate, and present it in a manner that they will love learning and explore their abilities. A teacher plays a role of a mentor or professional parent in student's life and can shape their career by providing valuable information in…

The ability to empower students to become better learners. I believe that a tutor should always encourage their students to try. I think at school a lot of the time a subject or a topic might seem very scary to the student and for this reason it becomes very hard for them to start studying the subject, So, I think as a tutor the most important part of my role is to show my students that there is nothing…

Empathy is key. If a tutor can show how learning certain topics can help a student in the future, it keeps the student's interest held in the subject for longer. What really helps is to periodically give some positive feedback to the student about their progress - how he or she has improved in the past 3 months, or month, for example. Because of…

In my opinion, for a student to always be good at studying and getting good grades every time, the student has to master appropriate studying strategies. Hence, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach the student how to study "smartly" and be more productive. Moreover, in high school, I used to go to coaching centre…

A tutor or at least a teacher is someone who can give students a helping hand, perhaps a friend is too informal but someone they can relate to. I think being able to understand your student and what makes them improve or how they can improve is also essential as a tutor and a teacher. It is useless to spoon feed facts and knowledge to a student if…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is give a student confidence in their own ability. The best way to do this is NOT to just tell them answers, but to help them work through the problem themselves. Facilitate the student's own learning by equipping them with the tools to then seek out how to learn and solve problems, and allowing the student to go where they want to go. I think the most important think a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence in their own abilities. Schooling, especially ones centred around standardised exams, encourage students to master themselves in order to achieve standardised tasks; however, no part of the curriculum teaches them how to do this. I feel as though it is the…

A tutor can make a student love the subject he/she hates. The most important thing for a tutor is to understand the student, his/her interests, aptitude, and what he/she is inclined towards. If you have a basic idea of the student mindset you can develop techniques to make them understand the subject in a way they don't find it hard. Gamification…

Over the years, I have developed the opinion that the teaching of transferable skills - contrary to only what is needed at the moment - is most valuable for the student’s future development. It is important to see that just completing the mandatory homework will not suffice, the real challenge is to change the mindset. As a good tutor, one has…

Local Reviews

Ezymath tutoring was the first company I contacted and I'm glad I did! Nathan is punctual (always comes five minutes early) enthusiastic and my daughter likes him. He is on top of our situation and takes the trouble to make the lessons interesting and relevant. Administration is very responsive too. Highly recommended.

Inside WoollahraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Eva worked through calculating area of triangles and finding the volume of 3D shapes, using visual examples to support understanding.

In Year 10, Emmanuel focused on reviewing algebraic expressions and solving inequalities from chapter exercises.

For Year 11, Daniel tackled advanced financial mathematics by applying the compound interest formula and exploring logarithms in real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student showed hesitance when tackling back titration and conductivity explanation questions in Chemistry—she was unable to phrase this concept succinctly, as one tutor noted, which meant answers lacked exam-level clarity.

In Year 8, another student's over-reliance on finger counting for basic arithmetic slowed progress, especially when working with numbers above 30 or attempting fractions without visual aids.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner avoided unfamiliar word problems in maths and resisted attempts at new problem types; this reluctance limited her willingness to try and built anxiety around unknowns during sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Woollahra recently saw a Year 10 student move from hesitation to confidently using the quadratic formula, solving problems that would have stumped her just weeks ago.

Another high schooler managed to work through complex pH and concentration calculations independently after initially struggling with multi-step questions, showing real persistence.

Meanwhile, a Year 2 student who used to rely on finger counting has begun adding and subtracting two-digit numbers in her head and now self-checks her answers—a big step towards independent learning she hadn't shown before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Waverley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Woollahra Public School.
