As a tutor my one and only goal would be to help my students gain confidence in subjects they are scared of or unable to understand. I shall explain key concepts as many times as required and help them through every stage. Even more than a tutor, i want to be their mentor and help them through difficulties. I think making them feel comfortable…

It is also to let them make mistakes so they learn and ask questions without any fear. I am extremely patient and assertive. I love helping and genuinely enjoy watching…

The most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence. Understanding the content is important, but if a student doesn’t believe they can do it, they won’t try. A good tutor helps them feel heard, capable, and supported — that’s when real progress happens. My strengths as a teacher are my patience, clear communication,…

Inside AshwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aveen focused on mastering long division and multiplication, as well as practicing short division to strengthen calculation skills.

For Year 8, Liam worked through challenging ratio and rates questions from his exercise book and reviewed concepts with additional practice problems.

In Year 10, Sucheta completed revision for an upcoming probability test by tackling a range of practice questions and clarifying key ideas using her notes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, while confident with algebra basics, often avoided writing full working for long division and negative numbers—"writing the working out!" was a frequent reminder.

In VCE maths, another student relied heavily on reference notes during SAC preparation but missed organizing all definitions and examples in one place; "just needs to ensure all definitions and example questions are written out in his reference book."

A Year 11 learner showed hesitancy starting unfamiliar questions without guidance, which slowed progress under time constraints. These moments left students double-checking mid-task or feeling unprepared when faced with new problem types.

Recent Achievements

One Ashwood tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate during exams now independently applies logic and the process of elimination to tackle tough maths questions, even under timed conditions.

In a Year 8 session, a student who once skipped writing out their working has started laying out each algebra step on paper, which helps avoid earlier calculation mistakes.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who struggled with subtracting bigger numbers last term was able to solve multi-digit subtraction problems almost entirely on her own after guided practice this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashburton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ashburton Primary School.
