Inside BangholmeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jaxxon worked on identifying number patterns and writing numbers as words, using practical worksheets to build confidence.

In Year 9, Olivia focused on statistics by calculating mean and standard deviation, then created timeline plots to represent data visually.

For Year 11, Ethan revised advanced trigonometry topics including the general solution for circular functions and practiced applying translations, dilations, and reflections to function graphs.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 maths, skipping written working and using fingers for addition led to confusion in multi-step problems; as one tutor noted, "he should work on comprehending worded problems without assistance."

A Year 8 student often left out equal signs or brackets when setting out algebra, making it hard to spot errors later—some steps were done mentally then forgotten.

In VCE maths, a student's revision focused mainly on familiar finance formulas but avoided complex applications; trial SAC questions revealed that over-reliance on calculators sometimes caused missed settings like the degrees symbol.

Time lost reorganizing unclear working meant less chance to attempt challenging questions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bangholme noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to hesitate when stuck; now, he immediately asks for help and keeps his notebooks organised without reminders.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student who previously struggled to show her working has begun writing out each step when solving equations—making fewer errors as a result.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student moved from guessing number patterns to confidently recognising and explaining them on her own, even tackling new problems without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Patterson Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mt Hira College.
