The responsibility of the tutor is to have a duty of care towards his/her student in such a way the student should be satisfied with the way the tutor had helped them and is comfortable with him/her at the end of the day. I am effective at communicating and helping others understand a problem from ground level. My lessons are more engaging as I…

A tutor is more than just one that imparts knowledge. Any textbook, podcast or Youtube Video can do that. The power of a good tutor is in his or her ability to strengthen and encourage their students, so helping them gain some momentum to keep persevering in subjects that are challenging them. This means patiently helping the students understand…

I would say the most important things a physics tutor can do for a student are: - Build understanding, not just give answers - Boost confidence - Adapt to the student’s needs Create a safe, judgment-free space My biggest strengths as a tutor are patience, clarity, and adaptability. I don't mind explaining something in multiple…

In most cases, students are seeking tutoring because they are not sure that they will achieve the grades they require in their summative assessments. I believe that most students can learn, and learn to pass assessments. I have always believed it is our role to assist student to get to their goals. Sometime this means individualized learning. I…

Listen to their struggling points and help them step by step to figure out what they're doing wrong and give them some confidence for how to proceed when they're by themselves. Sometimes all that's required is being walked through how to approach and solve a problem. Additionally, giving them resources (or helping them make their own) like notes…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do is help the student realize and reach their potential and recognize their own capabilities and intelligence. I am very patient in my approach to teaching. I am polite, punctual and very enthusiastic. I find it easy to communicate with my students and find exactly what they might be struggling…

Local Reviews

Our tutor Laura was great! She helped my son in year 9 get back up to speed and he has thrived since having her assistance. My younger son was diagnosed with Dyslexia which meant he required more specialised tutoring on going but Laura was a huge support to him for the year they worked together. She was lovely and very accepting of my sons.

Inside BarragupTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Olly focused on interpreting and drawing Venn diagrams for probability, then applied these to solve multi-step problems.

For Year 10, Emily practiced expanding algebraic expressions using index laws and worked through finance maths questions involving simple interest.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student reviewed the key features of linear functions—such as intercepts and gradients—and learned how to accurately graph them using Desmos calculator tools.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student sometimes didn't fully read questions in OLNA-style maths, which led to working errors and missed marks—"he skipped reading key parts of the question," one tutor noted.

In Year 8 assignments, another student showed confusion about where to start until specific directions were given; this delayed progress on tasks requiring independent planning.

Meanwhile, a senior (Year 12) preparing for trigonometry exams focused mostly on familiar problems during revision, avoiding trickier practice that would build confidence with new concepts. This meant exam nerves remained high when unfamiliar formats appeared.

Recent Achievements

One Barragup tutor recently noticed a big shift in Zack, a high school student who started the term hesitant with mental maths but is now confidently explaining his reasoning aloud—something he avoided before.

Georgia, also in high school, used to get stuck when new approaches were introduced; now she's quick to try different methods and can clearly explain assignment tasks back to the tutor without prompting.

Meanwhile, Emily in Year 6 has begun arriving at each session with her own list of questions and works through problems independently after brief explanations.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mandurah Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Riverside Primary School.
