Obviously…

To teach students that it is okay to be wrong or make mistakes as long as you correct it afterwards. It is important to attempt to answer each question on a test and work sheet as if you attempt it then you might get some points on your final grade. It is also important to become self confident and trust that you can tackle any problem. I will…

The most important thing a tutor does for a student is helping them become more confident, so that they have faith in their own abilities and performance. This starts by simplifying the content and explaining it in a way that the student can understand, then building this up so they can face the hardest of questions. It is about equipping them…

I think the most important thing, is that you not only teach students. You learn to grow with them, you make sure that your students are able to be successful, and you are a small contributor to that success, but along the way, you grow with them, you understand the way they learn, so that you could learn with them. I think that my strengths, are…

No matter where they are at whether it is passing to doing well or doing well to smashing it. I also think it’s about finding ways in which the student learns best. I think…

Actually speaking, the tutor should focus on potential development rahter than merely improving the skills of a student. It could be best tutors can adopt practices such as NLP ( neuro linguistic programming) to boost rapid learning of a student. But for that only truly commited tutors would raise their hands. Since it reqires a lot of hard yards.…

Listen to the student. I firmly belive that students know where they lack and what's stopping them from achieving their goals. Ensure the student doesn't lose hope or motivation to study. Local Reviews

Gary has been a good personality fit with Myles. He has been gentle and encouraging and Myles is motivated to do more maths throughout the week where previously he was feeling it was all too hard.
Meredith, Beaumaris

Inside BeaumarisTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jack focused on solving linear equations for his assignment and revisited the use of indices in measurement questions.

In Year 9, Mia tackled advanced algebraic concepts, including challenging problems from Chapter 4 and some extension work into Chapter 5, with extra emphasis on transformation of domains and ranges.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sarah concentrated on rates of change and a basic introduction to limits and derivatives, also reviewing key trigonometry concepts through recent assessment tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student in maths often left working untidy, making calculation steps hard to follow—"needs to lay out his steps on paper," a tutor noted, which sometimes hid mistakes in multi-digit multiplication.

In Year 10 English, another student avoided taking notes during "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and struggled later to recall themes and character roles for essay writing.

For VCE Maths Methods, incomplete revision was evident: "needs to do the non-tech practice test tomorrow," yet missed homework meant she faced the test less prepared and more anxious about calculator skills under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Beaumaris tutoring session saw a Year 10 student who had previously struggled with essay introductions begin structuring them independently, showing much clearer arguments and linking evidence more effectively in their English work.

A Year 11 maths student, who used to hesitate when facing new topics, came prepared with her own questions for the tutor and worked through challenging rate of change problems confidently, even writing out detailed working without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student started verbalising his thought process during problem-solving—something he hadn't done before—which helped him organise his calculations more neatly and spot mistakes on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Beaumaris Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beaumaris Primary School.
