I have been inspired by educators who encourage their students' learning and find different ways to teach the same concepts. For students who struggle, helping them understand basic/intermediate concepts is a big step. Getting quality responses and correct answers by themselves builds confidence in student learning, and creates positive feedback…

Develop a good rapport with the student so they are open to expressing their fears/weaknesses. Where the student does not open us, assess exactly which area the student needs help in and focus their energy there. I develop professional relationships with pupils quite easily, and that helps break the ice. They are more open to receiving coaching. I…

The most important thing in teaching is to make the student believe that they will surpass any goals they set their minds into. Level communication in a way the students will be comfortable to interact with. It will be best if the students seek out help and teachers guide them into analyzing the problem themselves. This is when students start to…

I think besides helping a student with his/her academics, a tutor can act as a role model for him/her or someone he/she can look up to. A tutor can not only provide academic assistance but also can broadens a student's outlook in many ways by sharing with him/her many stories, news and also giving an idea about manners and ethics as well. The most…

The best thing I can do for a student, is to give them confidence in themselves. This is an essential part of learning, but also life. By making students realize that math isn’t too difficult, they can let go of the fear associated with it. As a result, they can finally embark on the journey of academic excellence, where students become…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do is to inspire curiosity and a passion for learning in their students. Academic knowledge from a tutor may sometimes be limited or even incorrect, but if students are motivated to learn, they will invest time in researching and expanding their understanding. Besides, a positive attitude towards…

To me, a tutor can make learning real, relevant and interesting.Tutor can make learning relevant to students's interest which in itself is half the battle won as research has proved that one learns things quickly if those aligns to one's interest. For e.g., a student who like solving maths puzzles will quickly learn new formulas and other things…

The best thing a teacher can do to a student is to adapt to student's learning style. I have experienced that every student learn differently, some are visual, some hands-on discussion based and some with stories. A great tutor identifies how each student learns fast and adjust their approach accordingly. I have emotional intelligence to learn…

Inside CairnleaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Taj focused on probability concepts and practiced multiplication timetables for fluency.

For Year 8, Aashi worked through scientific notation and indices, then tackled practice with multiplying decimals to address past difficulties.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jason reviewed algebraic expressions and solved worded questions involving variables and equations, using real-life examples for context.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, homework was often left incomplete, especially with chapter revision and annotating articles—this meant gaps persisted in key skills like probability.

One Year 10 student repeatedly avoided showing full working when expanding algebraic expressions; as a tutor noted, "she tried to do too much in her head and missed sign errors."

In English for Year 6, a lack of planning caused him to get stuck on what each paragraph should say, leading to frustration mid-essay.

After setbacks on worded questions in Year 11 Maths, one student lost confidence and hesitated to attempt problems without heavy guidance.

Recent Achievements

One Cairnlea tutor recently noticed a Year 9 student who had previously struggled with algebraic expressions now working through expansion questions independently, applying each step without prompting.

A Year 7 learner who used to stay quiet during sessions has started speaking up about which maths concepts feel tricky and is now quick to ask for help when needed.

In primary, a student who was often hesitant about reading comprehension began summarising passages aloud and identifying key details by herself—she finished her latest story plan with all the main points mapped out in her own words.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Albans Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cairnlea Park Primary School-Western Special Assistance Unit - Language.
