I aim to instil students with effective learning strategies. People aren’t taught how to effectively learn and study, and often they can feel lost. I firmly believe that understanding the best learning approach for oneself is just as important as understanding the schoolwork. I pride myself on being patient - I understand that everyone learns…

Personally, I consider an english tutor's consistent motivation and encouragement to be the most important thing that can be done for a student. Of course, teaching students their material is a priority - but to keep them engaged and focused on their end goals, a tutor must always motivate and encourage their student through all the ups and downs.…

The most important things I can do for a student is help them improve on their weaknesses while utilising their strengths. Using their strengths and adapting them for improvement on areas they struggle on will help the student in the long run. For example, using their preferred learning style to teach concepts and topics they struggle with will…

Encouragement is the most important quality an english tutor should have. Doubt is unfortunately a huge negative factor when trying to learn so when a tutor shows a true belief to a student, confidence sparks & can fuel motivation. I believe a tutor is meant to empower their student to success By personal experience, I’ve had both, a tutors who…

Every student is different and every student has different ways of understanding concepts. Some might learn them easily via a practical approach while others focus on the theory first. Understanding the weak points of a student and focusing on the strength of a student is very important for an english tutor to know. One of my strengths is a strong…

The most crucial things an english tutor can do for a student are academic supervision, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these can possibly redefine a class, subject, or school more generally for a learner. A high level of energy and patience are two of my strongest assets. I strongly rely on these traits when I'm…

A tutor should firstly be encouraging; to be more confident in their studies, for them to work hard and try their best, and to inspire a love of learning. Secondly, it is imperative to be understanding. Every student is unique, with varying goals, learning styles, and abilities, so learning should be tailored to each individual to ensure every…

Being patient and understand things at the student's level. Breaking problems into smaller chunks for them to digest it better. It is also essential for tutors to go through foundational subject matters so that their comprehension is deepened before moving on to more complext matters. It's important to be understanding, to listen to what a student (or parent) wants to get out of tutoring, and to focus on the student's goals. It's also important to be clear in your teaching, and to come up with creative and interesting ways to teach each student, as every student is different. I have a very enthusiastic and positive approach to…

Only 3 sessions in but what a difference my son who was adamant he didn't want to do it now loves it and is so much more confident in class and doing homework. His homework results were always 55 percent and below now 90 and above. One happy parent and 15 year old! He said it's heaps easier one on one and how it's explained. I'm impressed.

Inside CaraboodaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alex worked through composite shapes and practiced worded area and perimeter questions, focusing on breaking down multi-step problems.

In Year 8, Jasmine tackled linear equations and explored non-linear equations, including graphing simple parabolas by hand.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Lucas strengthened skills in expanding and simplifying quadratics and analysed probability using real-world data sets from tables and graphs.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student often avoided writing out full solutions—"he prefers to do it in his head," as a tutor noted—which led to confusion with negatives and errors when expanding brackets.

For a Year 11 learner, answers in trigonometry became tangled due to skipping the initial step of copying down formulas; this left working unanchored and made backtracking difficult.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student misplaced her homework and struggled to keep materials organized, so time was lost searching instead of learning.

In Year 3 English, missed homework on word definitions meant gaps remained in vocabulary during sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Carabooda noticed one Year 10 student who used to skip steps when solving indices questions now writes every stage down, helping avoid simple conversion errors and showing a much more logical process.

In Year 8, another student who previously hesitated to ask for help has started talking through tricky volume problems out loud and checking their answers step by step, which wasn't happening before.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised her tutor by independently setting her own learning goals at the start of the session and sticking to them—she finished all her planned work without reminders or prompts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Clarkson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Northshore Christian Grammar School.
