I believe that tutors must aim to sculpt their students spark for the subject their teaching: to not only help them understand the subject and obtain a good outcome, but to make them enjoy the process of learning. I believe that a tutor has truly succeeded their responsibilities when their student anticipates their lessons and excell due to the…

I think teachers should genuinely care about their students and their mental wellbeing, not just their grades. Moreover, teachers should always be patient and never lose their tamper no matter what. I am quite patient and I try to explain the solutions in multiple different ways. Also, I think teaching is a message that goes beyond the classroom…

Tutors are the ones who shape the future of a child. Through their knowledge they help students to overcome their subjects by providing conceptual clarity. I feel tutors are like air traffic controllers who give the right direction and motivation to their students to help them fly in their life. Not only imparting knowledge is important, a tutor…

The most important thing a tutor can do with a student is to encourage them to develop strong study habits. Often, students who are disinterested in their work can be overlooked by busy teachers, and end up falling behind in classwork. As a tutor working with either one student or a small body of students, I have the opportunity to really pay…

Tutors should not immediately give students what they want. Providing answers is the easy path for both tutors and students, but then the solutions will always be mine, not the student's. A tutor is basically a role model for the student. If a tutor can quickly solve anonymous problem then student can definitely be motivated and solve there sums. Give them confidence that they can succeed. I believe with that with the right mindset almost anyone can succeed. In my personal opinion, the most important thing any kind of teacher can do for their student, is help them discover an expression of self in the subject. Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
