One of the most important things that a tutor can do for students is help them find what they are learning is full of fun. Interest is the best teacher. When students like a subject, they are more willing to put in more time to practice and learn about it. As a tutor, there is only a very limited hours that I can accompany my student. Therefore,…

Being a tutor is a profession of great responsibility, and they are entrusted with their students' future. I consider upholding that trust and guiding the students to what is correct is the number one essential thing for a tutor. Inside FordeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily practised division and multiplication strategies alongside subtraction and addition, using number sentences for fluency.

For Year 8, Alex focused on finding unknown angles within triangles using angle reasoning and interpreted travel graphs to identify rest periods and calculate rates from worded problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Zoe worked through algebraic techniques including factorising and expanding expressions, as well as applying index laws in various contexts.

Recent Challenges

Homework and organization issues emerged across multiple year levels.

For example, a Year 10 student repeatedly arrived without completed homework or the required school maths notebook, with damaged past test papers making review impossible.

"She completed her homework at 3am and only understood after hints were given," noted one tutor about a senior student, revealing challenges with time management and independent study routines.

In another session, a Year 8 student forgot to take notes for half the lesson, limiting later revision.

During test prep in Years 11–12, unplanned last-minute cramming led to incomplete mock tests and increased stress under timed conditions.

Recent Achievements

A Forde tutor noticed a Year 9 student, who used to freeze on test-style questions, now manages her time much better and even talks herself through tricky steps out loud during timed practice.

In a recent high school session, another student confidently tackled simultaneous equations—she'd previously needed hints but this time solved a substitution question entirely solo.

For a younger learner, Zara in Year 3 moved from confusion to mastering vertical subtraction with two-digit numbers and explained each step clearly without guessing.

Last week's lesson finished with a high schooler independently completing all assigned B-level algebra problems without help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gungahlin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Burgmann Anglican School - Forde Campus.
