The most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to show the student that through perseverance they can be good at the subject, and to appreciate the subject's content for what it is. Another important feature is instilling confidence in the student as that is a skill that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. I am…

Conveying their enthusiasm for the subject. If a teacher is enthusiastic, it makes it a lot easier for the student to learn, and if this can be conveyed with a good teaching style, then the student is much more likely to learn and enjoy it, making it a lot easier to grow in terms of the subject. I believe that I would be able to change the…

The most important thing for a tutor to do is build confidence in students. Local Reviews

Sen is an awesome maths tutor. He has been tutoring my son for over a year, first in year 11 (2022) and now in year 12 (2023). My son's math results are excellent and he is gaining more and more confidence with Sen's help.. Sen is always on time for tutoring sessions, and he has a calm way of explaining mathematical concepts in a logical way. He is professional, organised and friendly with excellent communication skills. Highly recommend him as a maths tutor.

Inside GilstonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Fractions worked on recognising and comparing fractions using visual aids, and also practiced basic addition of fractions.

In Year 10, Milly reviewed financial maths topics from her practice exam including discounted bills and simple interest calculations, with extra focus on interpreting real-world money scenarios.

Meanwhile, Iliya in Year 11 focused on editing a persuasive speech about the legal drinking age by refining imagery and improving grammatical flow for oral presentation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student working on trigonometry encountered challenges because foundational concepts from the unit circle weren't clear—this meant she needed to pause exam preparation to revisit basics and seek outside resources.

In Year 10 maths, a student arrived without their textbook or charged laptop, making it difficult to follow along with new content. As one tutor noted, "the task sheet was missing," so planned work couldn't proceed.

For a Year 5 learner, messy layout and skipped mathematical signs in multiplication made errors harder to spot later.

A senior biology student hesitated to attempt DNA analysis questions unless every step was certain, slowing progress during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

In Year 10, Mikayla started breaking down complex trigonometry—she can now use exact value triangles and work out the equation of a tangent line to a sine wave by following step-by-step reasoning, something she found overwhelming before.

Meanwhile, Archie (Year 7) has shifted from getting frustrated by mistakes in place value to calmly using errors as learning points and correcting them himself without prompting.

On the primary side, India (Year 3) surprised her tutor by completing an addition card game faster than ever, solving every problem correctly with no hints needed.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Helensvale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gilston State School.
