The ability to understand a student and their learning style is something I highly value in a tutor. In school classes where they are often one of many, they may find that the teaching style may not work for them and that they cannot achieve their goals. In a tutoring scenario, we are able to cater to them more specifically, to be intuitive about…

helping students realize that all their effort is going to pay off and there is a reason behind studying all these subjects and no one would benefit from working hard more than themselves. Explaining and teaching complicated subjects and break them down in a simple language. Using real world examples to demonstrate the application of different…

Not only is it important to explain concepts well to students, it is also important to create a foundation for students to bounce back on, so that they can understand how to have enhanced learning for the long term. A good tutor should be inspiring so that students will be motivated to be life-long learners. I believe my experience with teaching…

I believe being patient and considerate of each student is the most important thing for a tutor to do because this will make the learning space better for the student. If the student feels like their tutor is genuinely caring for their education then they will give their best. I can gauge when a student is or isn't understanding a concept, and can…

Inside Golden SquareTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Ava worked on identifying equivalent fractions and placing them accurately on a number line.

In Year 8, Lucas focused on solving linear equations and began applying Pythagoras' theorem to right-angled triangles using worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Emily tackled expanding and factorising algebraic expressions and refined her essay writing by drafting body paragraphs for English.

Recent Challenges

Homework routines and organization have been inconsistent across several levels.

For example, a Year 11 student missed the chance to review their previous test because "we were unable to find it," meaning important feedback was delayed.

In Year 7 maths, incomplete homework and forgotten spelling tasks slowed progress—one note stated, "spelling and homework this week was not completed to his standard."

In Year 4, messy written work in addition ("lining up numbers directly over each other & work right to left") led to calculation errors that took extra time to untangle before moving on.

Recent Achievements

A Golden Square tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who previously avoided asking questions now openly admits when he's unsure about a maths problem, which has helped him tackle challenging worded problems with much more success.

In Year 12 English, one student overcame her nerves to deliver a class presentation, using similes and metaphors she'd crafted herself—something she hesitated to attempt before.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, a Year 4 student who struggled to remember spelling words last term now recalls them accurately during lessons and completes weekly homework with far fewer errors than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Goldfields Library Corporation—or at your child's school (with permission), like Golden Square Primary School.
