The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show the student that through perseverance they can be good at the subject, and to appreciate the subject's content for what it is. Another important feature is instilling confidence in the student as that is a skill that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. I am currently…

Truly the most important thing any tutor can do for a student is to help create and cultivate a growth mindset. By doing this, students become lifelong, innovative learners. This certainly occurs in the classroom, but teachers are expected to do this to upwards of 20+ children. Tutors are important to students because they assist in expanding…

As teachers have to look over a lot of students, students who fall behind or struggle with conventional learning styles only get a limited amount of help. This is where the tutor jobs come in and provide a customized learning experience that is ideal and unique to each student. Tutors are like safety inspectors where they 1. Recheck their…

Inside Highland ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student India focused on recognising and working with fractions, and also practised telling time on an analogue clock using hands-on worksheets.

Year 10 student Jade reviewed algebra skills such as solving equations and then applied Pythagoras' theorem to exam-style questions for extra practice.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Lisa worked through biology topics including calculating Simpson's Diversity Index for biodiversity and interpreting results within real forest ecosystems, using examples from her assignment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student working on biology assignments relied heavily on online sources, rather than a mix of scientific articles and textbooks; this narrowed her research depth ("needed to confirm with the teacher if there were articles specific to the research question").

In Year 8 maths, one student struggled with layout—forgetting signs and not writing out all working made tracking mistakes difficult.

During a Year 5 lesson, another avoided attempting challenging subtraction questions, hesitating before giving an answer. This pause slowed progress, especially when new methods or recall were needed in timed settings.

Recent Achievements

One Highland Park tutor noticed a big shift with Jade (Year 8) in maths: after some reminders on area formulas, she was able to tackle the volume and trickier shapes by herself by lesson's end—something she'd previously hesitated to attempt alone.

In senior biology, Lisa has started actively investigating answers when unsure, rather than waiting for hints, showing much more independence compared to her earlier sessions.

Meanwhile, India (Year 3) surprised her tutor during an addition card game; she completed the sums faster and more accurately than ever before, using the right technique throughout.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Helensvale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like William Duncan State School.
