Engineering Studies Tutor Cooloongup, WA
Fundamentally, a tutor must be able to pass on their knowledge to students such that they can progress academically. This should be accompanied by helping and testing the students where necessary. I prefer to break down complex concepts into smaller ideas, which can then be used as a foundation for understanding and applying the actual…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to explain it so they understand what you're saying, and then give them time to figure it out on their own with out being given the answer, and without time constraints. I also think that making them feel comfortable to ask for help is very important, because if they don't ask…

Engineering Studies Tutor Wellard, WA
The tutor should actively listen to the student to analyze the core problem being faced by him and develop a tailored solution to address it. He should always try to motivate the student on how to deal with new obstacles in academics. Moreover, the tutor must regularly assess the student's abilities through tests or assignments so that he must…

Creating an environment where the student feels comfortable asking questions and isn't afraid to make mistakes from which they can learn from. I have experience teaching young children, which has taught me to be patient and flexible with my teaching approach. If one method isn’t effective, I’m able to adjust. I also understand the challenges…

Inside HillmanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Megan revised fractions and division principles, working through practice problems to strengthen her skills.

For Year 9, Riley focused on basic linear algebra, including factorising and expanding algebraic expressions, and also reviewed key reading for English.

In Year 10, Alex tackled standard deviation calculations and explored data distribution descriptors such as skewness, while learning how to construct box plots and cumulative frequency tables using real data sets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on algebra repeatedly avoided writing out calculation steps, as a tutor observed: "he skipped showing steps in equations, which hid sign errors." This led to confusion when checking answers.

In Year 11 Mathematics Methods, a student did not complete assigned calculus homework, leaving gaps in their understanding of derivatives and inflection points.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 Physics learner struggled to extract key variables from questions and hesitated to admit knowledge gaps—resulting in vague responses instead of clear solutions.

In English (Year 6), perfectionism with paragraph structure delayed drafting, making it harder to develop confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Hillman tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously relied heavily on prompts now independently completed all assigned calculus work, confidently finding areas under curves—even splitting overlapping functions without guidance.

A high school student showed new initiative by finishing their research task early and organising sources clearly, rather than leaving referencing to the last minute as before.

In Year 4 maths, a student who once hesitated with fractions is now able to create fractions from shapes and timelines without prompting, even applying these skills to more complex addition tasks during sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rockingham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hillman Primary School.
