Biology Tutor Douglas, QLD
One of the most important things a biology tutor can do is motivate the student and help build their love for the subject. Helping the student let go of their fear of the subject can not only help them in the present but also aid them in their future endeavours. I personally am aware of the feeling of fearing a subject but also conquering this…

Inside KirwanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Sophia reviewed and simplified index laws and worked on evaluating integers and decimals from her recent school test.

In Year 10, Eve tackled a range of trigonometry questions along with similarity and congruence problems using past exam material to strengthen her problem-solving approach.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Isaac focused on chemistry skills by identifying ionic versus covalent bonds and determining chemical formulas for various compounds through targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, a student struggled to locate the correct version of an assessment during a session—this lack of organization meant time was lost clarifying basic requirements instead of tackling content. As one tutor put it, "He was just a bit unprepared for the session as he did not have his online textbook open."

In Year 8 Maths, incomplete homework was a recurring issue; several sessions ended with tasks left unfinished or overdue, particularly with algebra and graphing questions.

For English in Year 10, sentences lacked cohesion and paragraphs didn't align with thesis statements, leading to confusion when reviewing essay drafts.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Kirwan noticed Jacinta, a high school student, has started bringing her own teacher's feedback to sessions and revising her essay drafts between lessons—she hadn't done this before and is now clearly more proactive about improving her writing.

Eve, also in high school, recently figured out exactly where she'd made mistakes on a tricky test after reviewing textbook exercises together; she used to just move on without really understanding what went wrong.

Meanwhile, Lauren (Year 7) surprised her tutor by asking questions when stuck and tackling Pythagorean theorem problems independently for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Citylibraries Riverway—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kirwan State High School.
