I think that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence in their own abilities, as this empowers them to develop their own skills on their own and, Some of my strengths as a tutor is my patience, I am quite willing to explain a concept to a student as many times as necessary and can adapt to a specific…

In my opinion, a tutor can act as the bridge between the student and the learning outcome. I feel the job of a tutor is to instill confidence in the child and inculcate a joy of learning the subject. My job as a tutor is to administer lessons to students in such a way to adapt to his capabilities and to meld the subject matter with his interest in…

Be supportive and believe in them wholeheartedly but at the same time not spoon feed them and sugar coat the level they are at. I believe the best thing a tutor can do is be realistic and set realistic goals for the student so that they work towards a common goal. I believe that I become a trustworthy friend to the students and they are able to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand their point of view. From my experience as a student, I struggled with issues inside and outside the classroom, and some teachers just stacked on the workload with no recognition of how much it wasn't helping. It was my ancient teacher who helped me enjoy studying as he…

The most important thing as a tutor is to help students connect to what they are learning. It is the job of the tutor to differentiate instruction based on the learning preferences of the students. Further, a tutor reinforces what the students have been learning at school. I am a teacher with 15 years of teaching experience. My last school was…

I consider many things which a tutor can do for a student like a tutor can also be a motivator for his students and motivate them to learn. He must clarify the concepts and solve the doubts of his students. A tutor can build a supportive & encouraging environment which can empower students to become independent learners. Being a tutor, I find my…

A tutor is not just only someone who's there to help with homework questions, but more importantly questions outside the classroom. It's about building a…

Teach obviously! but i think if the tutor can make the lessons as fun as possible so that the student looks forward to them as something enjoyable rather than as purely work, the best results will occur. Most importantly to a student a tutor is there to provide a student with the most positive, educational experience that suits the student's needs. The ability to pose different methods to learn a concept/idea is the most important thing a tutor can do, as not all students learn in the same way, My patience and preparation are both skills that enhance my abilities as a tutor in working with students. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is wholly believe in their capabilities. If a tutor/ teacher doesn't think that a student can succeed then it's pretty impossible to effectively help. Of course, this goes the other way as it is a tutors responsibility to ensure that the student believes in their own ability to succeed.…

A tutor plays a crucial role in a student's academic and personal development. Tutors help students understand complex topics by breaking them down into simpler, more manageable concepts. They provide clarity and explanations tailored to the student's level of understanding. Tutors also offer emotional and academic support, boosting a student's…

One of the most important thing a tutor can do for a student, is not only make the subject fun and easier to understand but to make the student believe in himself/herself. Inside LewishamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Liam worked on addition and subtraction using number lines, as well as identifying equality statements and basic counting strategies through interactive games.

In Year 10, Emily focused on BODMAS equations and fractions from her homework before tackling introductory algebra questions involving like terms.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Andrea revised percentage calculations without a calculator and practised the unitary method to solve real-world profit scenarios.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled to show full working in algebra and coordinate geometry, leading to hidden errors; as one tutor observed, "extra attention to detail would help minimise mistakes."

In Year 9, a student often avoided writing out solutions neatly or following class formats, which made it harder to spot where steps went wrong—especially with formula rearrangement.

For a Year 6 learner, forgetting homework and rarely practicing challenging questions limited progress when faced with multi-step division problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 2 student's loss of confidence after setbacks led them to guess answers rather than try new approaches.

Recent Achievements

A Lewisham tutor recently saw Annabelle, a high school student, shift from hesitating with trigonometry to confidently identifying which function—sin, cos, or tan—to use and starting to rearrange equations independently, something she found confusing before.

In another session, Liam (Year 3) began writing his maths and diagrams out neatly without prompting; he used to skip steps and rush through work.

Justin, also in high school, was initially unsure about coordinate geometry but after extra practice now works through algebraic operations more smoothly.

Annabelle finished her lesson by solving a full set of angle sum problems with minimal help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Emanuel Tsardoulias Community Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Christian Brothers' High School Lewisham.
