Inside Lower PlentyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Alex focused on converting between fractions and decimals, along with geometry skills like calculating area and perimeter using diagrams.

In Year 7, Mia practiced algebraic techniques from Chapter 4 of the Edrolo textbook, as well as translating between mixed and improper fractions.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Ethan worked through probability concepts and basic statistical analysis in preparation for an upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

In recent Year 8 and Year 11 lessons, incomplete homework has stood out as a key barrier. One student in Year 11 was told, "He will not progress any further in Mathematics unless he tends to his homework," after repeatedly arriving without set work finished—leaving him unable to keep pace with new concepts.

In a Year 8 session, difficulty focusing on multi-step questions led to missed instructions; the tutor noted attention span issues meant extra time was spent re-explaining basic processes instead of building deeper understanding.

The lack of written working and frequent distractions created ongoing gaps in both classes.

Recent Achievements

A Lower Plenty tutoring session saw a Year 10 student who, after struggling with basic addition at first, managed to independently solve algebraic equations by the end of class—a real turnaround in problem-solving skills.

In Year 8, two students who often hesitated to participate began enthusiastically competing with each other to answer percentage questions, showing a new willingness to engage and challenge themselves.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously found fractions confusing was able to calculate them accurately during his first lesson and even explained his method back to the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Eltham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lower Plenty Primary School.
