The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is awaken curiosity and interest in the student. With no urge to ask questions and absorb knowledge, learning would become a challenging task for both the teacher and the student. My strengths as a tutor come from my ability to empathise and understand my students. Possessing a bachelor's…

I believe that personalisation is what sets apart a tutor from an effective teacher. Students should initially be analysed for their approach to questions, personal goals and grievances to adroitly construct a program for them to adapt to. Consistency can further this notion and assist the student in improving their grades. My Strengths as a tutor…

Inside Mays HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Adnan practised multiplication skills and explored area and perimeter, using worksheets to reinforce understanding.

In Year 10, Yasna worked on data analysis topics such as histograms and cumulative frequency polygons, with an emphasis on interpreting Pareto principles.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Farhan focused on financial mathematics concepts including calculating simple interest and applying percentage increases in practical scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, a student repeatedly arrived without a notebook or key materials for Algebra homework—"still doesn't have a notebook and needs to get one before next class." This led to incomplete work and confusion during lessons.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student did not finish an assigned assessment in Data Analysis; as noted, "need to finish the assessment," which delayed targeted feedback on exam strategies.

In Year 5 writing tasks, messy written sentences made it difficult to identify missing adjectives or punctuation errors until prompted.

These patterns slowed progress and made independent study more challenging between sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Mays Hill tutor noticed a real shift with a Year 9 student who previously hesitated to ask questions—this week, she openly requested extra practice on percentage cumulative frequency for Pareto charts and solved problems independently.

In another session, a high schooler working through Financial Mathematics was able to break down wage structures and commission calculations without prompting, after struggling with multi-step equations last month.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to rush her spelling is now deliberately sounding out tricky words before writing them, which helped her self-correct nearly all mistakes in her recent quiz.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wentworthville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Parramatta West Public School.
