I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for students is to guide and assist them to complete assignments and homework rather than completing it for them. This will not only allow them to ask questions and gain a basic understanding of how to do a task, but it will also allow them to successfully complete a similar task without needing…

Based on my experience, asking students to explain to you the whole concept has been the most important thing as it ensures the tutor about the understanding student has got. Local Reviews

Chloe gets along very well with Huey & has told us she feels much better already.
Ron, Northfield

Inside NorthfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student completed a review of 2-5 times tables and worked on reading comprehension.

Year 9 student Amber practised drawing linear graphs for trebuchets and determined the standard form of linear equations (y=mx+c).

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mia focused on quadratic problem solving by applying the quadratic formula to perimeter problems and revisited completing the square using guided examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's working out in algebra was described as "messy and hard to follow," with missed steps leading to sign errors—especially when expanding or simplifying (a+b)^2 expressions.

In Year 11, a lack of preparation for trigonometry tasks showed up when key formulas were missing from the cheat sheet; this left the student unsure about when to use cosine versus SOHCAHTOA.

One primary-level learner often guessed answers rather than working through multiplication tables, slowing recall and lowering confidence after mistakes.

When tired, a senior maths student made repeated errors calculating with negatives, compounding confusion during Pythagoras questions.

Recent Achievements

A Year 10 student, who used to need frequent reminders, came prepared with specific questions already circled and managed to keep strong focus during an extended lesson—something that's been tricky before.

In Year 8 maths, another student showed new independence by applying indices laws without prompting and correctly recalling area formulas learned earlier this year.

Meanwhile, a younger student has started reciting their 2x tables smoothly and is making clear progress on the 3x tables after struggling to remember them in past sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Enfield Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Northfield Primary School.
