At a foundational level, it's most important to ensure the student feels confident with the material they're learning. As a first step, it's important for a tutor to assist in honing in and helping the student practice so that their skill level matches the basic requirements of the subject. Then the next most important thing a tutor can do for a…

Successful tutors can build strong, personal relationships with their students. As they can teach to the student's strengths, they are able to minimize the student's weaknesses. Additionally, tutors listen and communicate early and often with parents and teachers I am very communicative. I can attract children's attention and make the lesson much…

As a student myself, the important things a tutor can do for a student can provide a clear and simple explanation and help them how to break down a given problem and apply the learned concept in real-life scenarios. And, another important point to note is that every student is unique, so as a tutor, I should be able to adapt to the teaching style…

A tutor is not responsible for not passing the exam only, rather he needs to guide the student toward a better future for the student & a wellbeing for the society. To me, a tutor can make learning real, relevant and interesting.Tutor can make learning relevant to students's interest which in itself is half the battle won as research has proved that one learns things quickly if those aligns to one's interest. For e.g., a student who like solving maths puzzles will quickly learn new formulas and other things…

Empathy: Understand how the student is feeling or understood a particular concept based on their behavioural and body language cues. This is because most students do not give explicit feedback. Understanding the student's learning pace: Every student is unique and have their own pace of learning. As a tutor you need to adapt to that. I am…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student, is to show the easiest method to learn the content of the subject. A tutor can teach the way to decode the subject matter. Once, the tutor teach the method to learn and the student understand that method, a student should become independent to learn similar topics. I think a tutor…

The best thing any Tutor can do is make a student like a particular subject which she/he used to previously dislike. This means that the Tutor has made a boring subject interesting to the students. And in this way, the student will remember what he/she learns for a lifetime and not just for the purpose of examinations. I am a very patient Tutor,…

My experience with Ezymath and in particular my tutor David has been fantastic. My tutor was flexible with time slots around my work commitments, encouraging when I was struggling and responsive to when I needed help.

Inside Oak ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Max focused on multiplying and subtracting larger numbers and worked through basic area calculations for squares.

For Year 8, Ava tackled probability problems and statistics questions, using real-life scenarios to deepen her understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam practiced factorising algebraic expressions and expanding brackets, building confidence with indices in preparation for an upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 maths, one student regularly avoided writing down working for equations, saying, "I can do this in my head," which led to missed sign errors and confusion with negatives.

For a Year 8 algebra task, skipping steps meant the method was unclear, so extra time was spent finding mistakes instead of moving forward.

In Year 7 English, not meeting the required essay word count ("didn't understand he needed to use 100 words") resulted in lost marks and frustration.

Meanwhile, a primary student forgot their workbook for multiple sessions, delaying progress on basic arithmetic skills and causing repeated catch-up.

Recent Achievements

One Oak Park tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who, after previously struggling with negative numbers and often getting sidetracked during lessons, now completes problems with negatives more accurately—even managing to stay focused for longer stretches.

In a senior session, a Year 11 student began actively asking questions about formulas for surface area instead of quietly moving on when unsure; he's also connecting symbols like 'r' to their meaning in context, which hadn't happened before.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised her tutor by independently explaining errors in her own narrative writing and confidently sharing her opinions on the book club novel "Wonder."

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Francis de Sales School.
