I think the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is identify and act on the students gaps of knowledge. This is because information is available to the student in the form of teachers and unlimited online resources. A tutor's differentiatory use then becomes identifying a students gap of knowledge and assisting in weak areas…

I think the most important things are that an english tutor should should consider are knowing the student's leaning style because not every student are the same to just get a question or example at one go, it is important to make the student ask questions or ask them questions so they think outside the box and get a better understanding. I think…

A tutor not only has to teach and assist, but has to provide a student with the confidence that he or she is capable of performing work to a high standard on their own. I believe my biggest strengths, as evident by my high school grades, are my highly developed mathematical and english skills. My main weakness would be holding a student to a…

Most importantly, a student should be motivated and encouraged so that he studies with interest. He should be made to feel that if he failed to understand a concept once, it is perfectly fine and he should keep trying. He should be taught the actual meaning of the word 'Competition' , which is to beat his / her own last performance and not anyone…

Teaching the content and helping them fully grasp it, rather than doing it for them. I find that a lot of subjects have a particular rhythm to them; although some require rote learning (like particular concepts, especially within math), there are always patterns that can be identified so that students achieve their very best. For example: Stage 2…

In my opinion, as an english tutor, it is very important to cherish the students as they progressed, acknowledging their work and encourage them to try to do with their full potential. Besides, it is important to have an understanding of their best way of learning, and encourage them to question in their learning. Furthermore, awareness of their…

The most important thing that an english tutor for students is to allow them to work out answers for themselves. Of course, tutors should provide guidance, but they should not merely provide answers. Additionally, I feel that students must be allowed room to make mistakes. A tutor should not be one to apply too much pressure on a student, as too…

I believe the most important thing an english tutor can offer a child is patience. Impatience does not create a suitable learning environment. Qualities like these can prevent a child from wanting to learn, they may negatively associate with the subject, putting them further behind. Every child can succeed, given enough time. I have strengths as…

A tutor is someone who just not explains what is right or wrong or not or just gives the answer directly, but instead makes sure that the student, one is teaching has understood the concept extremely well and can relate to his or her own work and can work perfectly without the tutor's help. Also, the tutor should be aware how the student works…

I think the best tutor is one who guides the students properly and fairly not only in their academics but also about life challenges. Luke is loving Leo and looks forward to every lesson. His maths has greatly improved since we started with Leo and his confidence is increasing exponentially. In fact, his Maths teacher is so impressed by his abilities, he is keen to push Luke to take up studies in Maths at a higher level in Yr 12.

Inside ParalowieTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Archie revised BIDMAS and fractions, working on accuracy with operations involving both.

Year 8 student Isobel practised converting fractions to percentages as well as adding and subtracting fractions, focusing on method consistency.

For Year 5, Suhana began partitioning numbers, tackled basic multiplication and division, and explored simple fractions using hands-on examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled with test questions on mitosis and meiosis, needing extra hints rather than using feedback to revisit key concepts.

In Year 9 algebra, a tutor noted, "he skipped showing steps in indices simplification," which made it hard to spot calculation errors.

A Year 8 learner hesitated to attempt composite shape problems independently, often giving up quickly if unsure how to begin.

Meanwhile, a primary student avoided working through multi-digit subtraction when confused by 'borrowing', offering guesses instead of engaging with the process—leaving misunderstandings unresolved and confidence low after setbacks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Paralowie noticed one Year 11 student who had previously hesitated to check her answers now backchecking her work independently and catching mistakes before submission.

In a recent high school session, another student started talking through his thinking process out loud while solving algebraic questions—something he hadn't done before—which helped him solve problems with fewer errors.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student, who used to get flustered by large numbers of math problems, has begun calmly breaking them into smaller chunks and tackling each section without panicking. Last week, she finished a whole page independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burton Community Hub Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Temple Christian College - Bethany Campus.
