I believe a good tutor has the ability to transcend their role as an english tutor and become a role model for their students. Further, helping a student overcome their fears or challenges for a particular subject is incredibly helpful. I am able to connect with my students and understand their issues from their perspective. This allows me to…

It can be overwhelming to feel confused or left behind in school which can eventually affect your self-confidence. Tutoring gives students a safe space to learn at their own pace without feeling judged or incapable. My greatest strength as a tutor would be my patience and ability to simplify complex concepts in ways students can relate to. I can…

Teaching students material is important, but spoonfeeding them leads to boredom, dissatisfaction, and poor results when tests ask complicated questions. By listening, offering encouragement, and being careful about…

Give the student hope that they are able to do achieve something. I am that person where if u promise someone something that you know won't be achieved will damage that students confidence more than saying 'I can't promise anything, but I will try my absolute hardest to get you to your destination'. By giving students hope, and belief that they…

Successful tutors can build strong, personal relationships with their students. As they can teach to the student's strengths, they are able to minimize the student's weaknesses. Additionally, tutors listen and communicate early and often with parents and teachers I am very communicative. I can attract children's attention and make the lesson much…

I believe that a good tutor has the the ability to help students build confidence for the classroom, and inspire them to be the best that they can be. Another thing that is important to me is not belittling the student or making them feel "stupid" for not understanding, but instead relating to them and helping them find a different way to solve…

I consider one of the most important things an english tutor can do for a student is build their confidence. Once this is established and the student has faith in their own abilities, the tutor is able to guide and facilitate their learning as a pose to simply instruct. The role of the tutor is to recognise what the student is capable of doing on…

I see an english tutor as someone who can motivate students to learn and build the students' confidence to recognize their strengths. Like planting a tree, it may take sometime for teaching to be rewarding but it has a great impact as a tutor get a chance to contribute to a positive change in students' life. I see myself as a communicative,…

The most important thing to keep in mind when tutoring in my opinion is to help them gain confidence & enjoyment in the subject. If a student believes they are bad at a subject, they often won't try as hard because they view it as pointless. Confirmation bias can also lead to only noticing when they make mistakes, meaning they won't recognise the…

The most important thing is to gain a core understanding of the topic, and not just a surface level rote learning of how to solve problems. It's also important to have an understanding of each student and to recognise when to push them and when they've hit a wall (mentally). I think my greatest strength is my approachability and flexibility. I do…

Apart from many things, confidence to then be able to take back into the classroom, and real world. A tutor usually has a much smaller class to handle, so can develop greater relations with the students and clearly understand what each student needs to excel. Local Reviews

While it seemed to take a little while to pair with a tutor, the match was perfect. I couldn't be happier with the service. Definitely worth the conversation if you have a child with a specific need. We are already seeing improvements after only a few sessions.
Imelda Patton, Pascoe Vale

Inside Pascoe Vale SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Tania reviewed the rules for indices and surds, practiced operations with both, and worked through questions involving addition, subtraction, and rationalising denominators.

Year 10 student Lucas focused on quadratic equations by factorising both monic and non-monic trinomials as well as solving quadratics using the quadratic formula.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah tackled trigonometry applications including bearings and word problems requiring angles of elevation and depression.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7, one student's handwriting and arrangement of working out led to confusion during calculation—in factorisation tasks, this meant both the tutor and student lost time trying to decipher steps.

A Year 8 learner arrived unprepared, having forgotten textbooks and lacking familiarity with digital tools, which limited engagement in the session.

For a Year 10 algebra class, "just reading notes and doing practice questions" without tackling unfamiliar problems slowed progress on the unit circle topic.

In VCE Chemistry, skipping careful checks after calculations led to unnoticed errors; as a tutor observed: "methodical calculations were needed but not always followed through."

Recent Achievements

One Pascoe Vale South tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who had struggled with factorisation; this time, he was able to construct several examples independently and tackle key homework steps that were previously out of reach.

In a senior session, a Year 12 student began deriving equations correctly for the first time—something she'd hesitated over before—and even worked through problems involving limits and derivatives with much less prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student who used to quietly muddle through reading now reads fluently and enunciates well, only occasionally needing encouragement to project his voice.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbell-Turnbull Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Antonine College.
