Improve their confidence in the field of study is very important. In year 11 I found myself questioning my mathematical skills and this often made me perform bad in tests because I'd doubt myself and make silly mistakes. Over the summer break before year 12 I had a private tutor who helped me improve my confidence and in year 12 I found out that I…

This must all be applied…

Content Covered

Year 9 student Noah focused on measurement conversions and practiced algebra questions to boost calculation speed.

Year 10 student Hayden tackled advanced algebra involving order of operations with exponents, alongside percentage calculations done without a calculator, and began learning key definitions from the upcoming Year 11 Maths syllabus.

For Elloise in Year 9, lessons targeted division skills without a calculator as well as building confidence with multi-step algebra problems, ensuring solid understanding before her next test.

Recent Challenges

Several process-related habits impacted progress across year levels.

In upper primary, a Year 5 student repeatedly avoided writing out working in division and powers, leading to simple errors; as noted, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

In Year 7–8 Maths, homework was often left incomplete or not attempted at all—during test preparation this meant missed chances to consolidate core skills and review feedback.

For a Year 10 student, confidence lapses after mistakes caused hesitation before answering the next question during exam-style practice. The pause grew with each uncertainty, quietly eating into valuable test time.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Piara Waters noticed one Year 8 student who used to rush through maths problems is now carefully showing all working, leading to fewer errors and clearer answers.

Another high schooler has shifted from using physical tools for learning area and volume to independently applying formulas during practice questions—something they previously struggled with unless prompted.

Meanwhile, a primary student who would hesitate to ask for help now regularly stops the lesson to clarify tricky worded questions before moving on, finishing a full set of division tasks without needing extra guidance this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Amherst Village Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Riva Primary School.
