A tutor should be the mentor for students and guide them the way rather than just spoon-feeding them with the content. Also, an english tutor should always remain unbiased towards the students. Talking about my strengths, I am capable of teaching students in such a way that they are able to relate to what I am explaining in the first go and I…

I think the most important thing an english tutor can do is to be flexible with their different learning styles. Often when students ask for a tutor it's because they are unable to learn using the method their teacher uses. It's a tutor's job to rework concepts in a way so that students can benefit from it. Simply repeating what a teacher has said…

A tutor must always fully and wholly understand his content and always develop innovative ways to communicate the information to their students; meaning - don't copy the textbook on a power point, instead develop your own materials My recent conclusion of year 12 gives me fresh knowledge on the current study designs, the appropriate material…

To help with subject related knowledge. To make them confident regarding their school subjects. To identify and nurture their inner strengths. To help them achieve their dreams and careers in the long run. In order to achieve these goals, an english tutor must create a comfortable space for the student to learn not just content from the school…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to understand him/her. By understanding the student, the teacher can learn how to approach and support the student based on their needs and requirements. I am a great communicator who can creatively explain and express ideas in ways that students can learn quickly and easily. I also…

It is important to be available as often as required, and to be friendly and approachable. A student should feel safe around their tutor, and be able to ask them any question. I am good at adapting my teaching style to suit the needs of every individual student. I understand that all students learn in different ways, so I cater my teaching to suit…

Inside RythdaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alex practised adding and subtracting fractions as well as tackling word problems involving fractions of a quantity.

For Year 8, Emily focused on working with the Cartesian plane by plotting points and also solved problems involving percentages of amounts.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jacob reviewed linear equations, including solving for unknowns and understanding gradient and intercepts using graphing techniques.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7, one student lost marks on a negative numbers task by not reading questions carefully—"marks were deducted for not reading the question carefully and careless mistakes with negative numbers."

For a Year 10 trigonometry session, confusion arose when problems were attempted without showing working, leading to missed steps.

Another instance in Year 4 saw minor errors in homework due to misreading instructions, resulting in correct methods but wrong answers.

During algebra practice in Year 8, over-reliance on mental calculations led to skipped checks and small sign errors that compounded across multi-step questions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rythdale recently noticed Gemma tackling questions she used to get stuck on, especially with negative numbers and fractions—she now pauses to check her work instead of rushing through.

In a Year 10 session, one student who previously avoided algebraic notation began working independently through equations on both sides, asking for clarification only after giving each question a solid attempt.

Meanwhile, Sophie in Year 5 not only grasped the steps for converting decimals to fractions but confidently explained her reasoning out loud—a big shift from when she'd just write answers without sharing her thinking.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Pakenham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cardinia Primary School.
