The most important thing in my opinion is make it fun and engaging no matter what. As a recently graduated student, I remember the only times I learnt things was when teachers made it engaging and fun when learning. My strengths are communication, patience, fun vibes, and ensuring student satisfaction. Whilst I’m still young I can always share…

Make a student realize studying is actually fun to do and increase their motivation, then leading them to make it a daily habit. I believe I am good at communicating with students and capable of providing a fun learning time. I understand a learning process could be sometimes frustrating and I didn't like it much neither when I was young but I…

Truly caring for your students personal growth is what I believe to really set apart great tutors from your run of the mill tutors. Growing up, I've had my fair share of tutors and I have felt it truly makes a difference when your tutor is trying to help you learn, instead of just trying to earn money. I believe my patience and persistence are two…

A tutor should set a good example for the student by punctual, respectful and approachable. A tutor should help the student set clear goals and monitor their progress. Above all, a tutor needs to believe in the student's capacity for growth, self-discipline and excellence. I think that I am very structured. I try my best to relate to students and…

I feel the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create an environment in which the student can feel safe to question what is being discussed and openly communicate lack of understanding and vulnerability. In my opinion, the worst thing a mentor can do is to appear unapproachable. When I was in this position, my mentor was very…

Making the subject more exciting for the student is the best thing I believe a tutor can do for a student because with this strategy students would always be eager to learn new things and put more efforts towards it. The main purpose of a tutor is to expand the tutee's tree of knowledge in a holistic manner. There is no point simply explaining the knowledge behind 1 leaf if it has nothing to hold on to, ie. the trunk and branches. If the leaf has nothing to hold on to then it will fall. So the tutors job is to find the best and most empathetic way from their…

In my experience, there are two really important things a tutor can provide for a student. A tutor's primary responsibility to their student is to strengthen their knowledge of a subject, diving deeper into topics they may have already studied or simply reinforcing concepts they are struggling with. While this is the predominant purpose of a…

I truely believe that the most important thing as a tutor is being there for your students. You not only have to give your best to help them you should also be a person of trust for them. In a lot of situations those students have problems beyond the school like in private life so that affects their grades. By just talking with them personally and…

A tutor should know the students' questions and worries and find ways to deal with rather than teaching them general knowledge. In this way, students can improve their grades and know how to perform. Another important thing is that students need to be nurtured with a good habit in learning, which is essential for their future studies. I am majored…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them how to think and learn. This is far more valuable for future work and study than any one topic to be learnt. Inside Seven HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Rebecca focused on long division of polynomials and applications of derivatives, while also practising expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions.

For Year 10, Lincoln worked through solving linear equations and simplifying linear expressions, as well as reviewing probability concepts using tree diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Charlotte tackled sketching curves with derivatives and modelling optimisation problems, alongside rates of change—often using exam-style questions for consolidation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on linear equations struggled to keep written work organised, leading to confusion with variables on both sides—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 Maths Methods student hesitated to attempt exam-style questions independently and needed extra encouragement before engaging with polynomial long division.

In one case, a primary student's confidence dropped quickly after setbacks with fraction multiplication; rather than trying alternate methods or seeking feedback, he tended to pause and wait for prompts. This slowed progress during revision sessions and limited the chance to build resilience.

Recent Achievements

One Seven Hills tutor noted that Phoenix, a senior student, initially struggled with Excel-based data analysis but now independently creates scatter plots and uses regression equations to interpret trends—skills he hadn't attempted before.

Another high school student, Rebecca, used to hesitate when stuck but now actively asks questions in sessions and can tackle long division problems with minimal prompting after practicing together.

Meanwhile, Mikayla in primary years showed a shift from distraction to focus; she stayed on task for an entire session and completed all homework booklet questions without reminders—a first for her this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Seven Hills State School.
