Most of these students who are being tutored most likely are struggling with the subject/s they are being tutored in. From previous experience, I've observed students do better in subjects they enjoy learning about. Hence I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them find aspects of the subject which they enjoy and…

I think the most important thing is definitely the genuine desire to see a student improve. I think my strengths lie in being able to customise my experience to each student depending on their confidence, learning speed, and learning style. I'm also confident in my ability to present and explain topics with patience, and also my competency in the…

First, I think the most important thing is a tutor should help the student to solve their puzzles and understand the topics thoroughly. Second, a tutor should always give encouragement to the students so they are always positive when facing difficulties. In my opinion, I think my strength is I am patient. Even the students feel confused after few…

As a tutor, the most important thing I can do for a student is to be available whenever they need me. In the past, students have had questions 1 hour before their exams. They have my number so they can contact me as needed and I will reply ASAP to explain what they are struggling with. To be a tutor is to be a source of knowledge that they can…

The first and foremost is being patient. Not everyone can learn and understand concepts at the same pace, so patience is very important. Trying different learning styles when the initial learning style doesn't work is another one, because people don't learn the same way. I'm very good at breaking down complex concepts into clear,…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build a student's confidence while helping them develop a genuine understanding of the subject. A good tutor should create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. It is also important to adapt teaching methods to suit each student's…

The conmmunication skills, the fluency of the interpretation will directly influence what the student received from teacher and also their capability to focus on the session. I'm willing to understand what the students are thinking, and can try to find a easier path for them base on what they have already understood. I am accessible and easy to…

I think that being patient and empathetic are two of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Listening empathetically to a student can help a tutor to understand the way that the student thinks. In turn, the student feels understood and real improvements can be made. Patience is important for many reasons in tutoring. In my…

Most important thing a tutor can do for a student is making them feel that their all queries are valid and making them ask more and more questions without hesitation. Also patiently answering thier queries is most important. I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, make learning less intimidating,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to be there for them. I believe clarity in the topics taught is paramount for the understanding of the student. Moreover, the students must not be demotivated nor bored in the class to have the enthusiasm of learning and retain the knowledge. The most important things a tutor can do is to inspire passion in their students, and teach them how to learn from themselves. Students with passion will happily work to the best of their abilities, and those who know how to learn will be able to drive and direct their own progress to whatever they may want to achieve. It is pivotal to help…

I believe that the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to not only be a tutor, but also a mentor. I know that student's can find it really daunting and feel the pressure of having expectations set up for them, and I believe it is the tutor's role to be aware of this and give them the support they need to overcome this. Inside SouthbankTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Nathan focused on NAPLAN-style questions involving ratio and decimals, as well as strategies for tackling worded fractions problems.

In Year 11, Maya revised specialist mathematics topics such as stationary points and rates of change using practice SAC questions, alongside a review of coordinate geometry and integration by substitution.

For Year 12, Jack worked through complex numbers in both polar and arithmetic forms and practiced exam-style questions covering trigonometric proofs and compound angle identities.

Recent Challenges

During recent sessions, a Year 9 student worked confidently with algebra but "the algebra gets confusing at times"—particularly when manipulating fractions—making test questions harder to tackle under time pressure.

In Year 11 Chemistry, the challenge was recalling key information and applying molar ratios in multi-step pH problems; summarizing details from long worded questions was slow.

One Year 7 session highlighted that turning word problems into equations still feels unfamiliar: starting these questions independently takes extra effort.

When reviewing tests, reading each question carefully mattered—missing this step meant some errors repeated, even after feedback was given.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Southbank noticed Alec, a Year 10 student, now shows more interest during sessions and has started asking questions about tricky topics instead of staying quiet—something he avoided before.

In another session, a senior student preparing for exams independently worked through curve sketching problems and used a stepwise approach to solve them, which had been a stumbling block just weeks earlier.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner who previously rushed maths tests began pacing himself better; last lesson he finished all his questions with time left to review answers on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Southbank Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Victorian College Of The Arts Secondary School.
