I think the most important thing an english tutor can do is make the student feel totally at ease with the subject. When they’re comfortable, they’re more open to asking questions and enjoying the learning process. It’s also about building their confidence, showing them they’re capable of understanding even the tricky stuff. And honestly,…

I believe the most important things an english tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, support their individual learning needs, and encourage independent thinking. It’s not just about giving answers it’s about helping students develop the skills to solve problems on their own. A good tutor creates a safe, supportive…

The best thing a teacher can do to a student is to adapt to student's learning style. I have experienced that every student learn differently, some are visual, some hands-on discussion based and some with stories. A great tutor identifies how each student learns fast and adjust their approach accordingly. I have emotional intelligence to learn…

The most important thing an english tutor can do is to be absolutely encouraging in whatever the student wants to achieve in anything they are learning. It's important because that strongly affects the students drive and perseverance in mastering a certain subject. A tutor can be inspiring to the student with the right and excited attitude I…

believe the most crucial aspects of tutoring involve tailoring my approach to meet the specific needs of each student. Firstly, it's essential to identify their strengths and weaknesses to create a customized learning plan. This may involve adapting my teaching style, introducing alternative resources, or providing additional practice in areas…

Build confidence! I've worked with many students, time and time again, who hated school because they lacked confidence. By building their confidence, the students were able to do better in their subjects and improve their test scores. I'm very good at assessing skills and adapting my tutoring style to fit the individual needs of the student…

Tutors are someone students can rely on for academic assistance. I recognise that the role of tutors is to aid students in their educational pathways and help students in realising their true academic capabilities, constantly providing constructive feedback for areas of improvement. It is also important to have understanding as the VCE process is…

To make the students feel more confident in themselves and help them believe they can excel with enough practice. To help them during busier periods, ie; tests, assignments etc. I am very compassionate and caring about the student's well-being, as well as being able to challenge them. I was sometimes scared to ask for help when I was younger so I…

I think an english tutor should be a role-model or at least someone the student can rely on when they are having trouble in their education. A tutor should relieve the immense pressure some students receive from normal schooling, and should be able to provide their students with long-term learning skills. My strengths would include being strict…

Inside TottenhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel practised NAPLAN numeracy skills by interpreting dot plots and tackling worded questions involving operations with fractions.

Year 8 student Chelsea focused on using the laws of indices to simplify expressions and applied her understanding of surds through practice quizzes and textbook review.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ava worked on solving quadratic equations by completing the square and sketched quadratic graphs using turning point form for visual reinforcement.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often avoided writing out working in algebra and long division, saying "I can do it in my head," which led to forgotten steps and confusion when checking answers.

In Year 11, a student relied heavily on her calculator for expanding and factorising exercises, making it difficult during non-calculator tests.

Another senior student's workbook layout was inconsistent—dates missing, mixed notes and questions—which made revision stressful before exams.

A Year 5 learner sometimes left homework incomplete due to a busy week; this limited opportunities for targeted feedback on tricky topics like fractions and multiplication.

Recent Achievements

A Tottenham tutor recently noticed a big shift with one high school student, Chelsea, who used to get stuck on worded problems—she now works through them independently and even organises her solutions clearly without prompting.

In another session, Sasha, also in high school, began tackling every test question instead of skipping the ones she found confusing; she's started asking clarifying questions instead of giving up.

Meanwhile, Camilla in Year 5 managed to create her first dot plot and confidently answered related questions—a leap from needing step-by-step guidance just a few weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Footscray West—or at your child's school (with permission), like Dinjerra Primary School.
