What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I deeply enjoy the process of tutoring because it allows me to share my knowledge in a way that empowers others to succeed. I love seeing the moment when a challenging concept clicks for a student—it's incredibly rewarding to witness their confidence grow. Tutoring also gives me the chance to tailor my teaching style to meet individual needs, which keeps the work dynamic and engaging. Above all, I value the opportunity to make a positive difference in someone's learning journey, helping them achieve their goals and feel capable of tackling challenges.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths as a tutor lie in my ability to simplify complex concepts, tailoring my teaching to individual learning styles. I'm patient, encouraging, and focused on helping students build confidence. My strong communication skills and problem-solving expertise enable me to guide students through challenges effectively, ensuring their success.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do is help students believe in themselves. Confidence is key—when students trust their ability to learn, they become more willing to tackle challenges and push their limits. I focus on building that confidence by celebrating small wins, providing constructive feedback, and creating a supportive environment. Empowering students to realize their potential not only helps them excel in math but also gives them the tools to succeed in broader academic and personal goals.

We worked through some questions from a End of Year 3 test together, and Astrid handled them very well. Most of the time, she remembered how to tackle each one with very little input from me.
For a few of the questions, Astrid needed a bit of guidance—just a nudge to get her started or a quick reminder of methods like column subtraction. But once she had that, things clicked and she was able to work through them confidently. She clearly knows how to solve these problems, even if she sometimes doesn't think she does. It might help to revisit some of the topics we’ve covered with her—maybe just a couple of quick exercises each week. That way, she can keep those methods fresh in her memory and feel more confident when similar questions pop up again (especially additions, subtractions, multiplications, etc).

Astrid quickly picked up how to identify even and odd numbers. She’s also really good at ordering numbers and spotting which one is the greatest or smallest. She understands place value well and reads numbers easily. Astrid did a great job recognizing number patterns, even the more tricky ones. She’s now very quick at adding numbers in columns, even with larger numbers.
Multiplications require some additional review—Astrid is capable of performing them but benefits from a gentle reminder and occasional assistance during the initial attempts.

Astrid is doing very well with addition and subtraction. She needed a little support at first with grouping by 10s and 20s, but once she understood the strategy, she picked it up quickly.
We have begun learning how to read the time, and Astrid is finding it a bit challenging to identify the minute and hour hands, but she seems to be able to count the minutes on the clock. She particularly struggles with understanding times expressed as 'past' or 'to' the hour, as well as interpreting 'quarter past', 'quarter to', and 'half past'. We will work more on this next time.

Astrid usually just needs a quick reminder on how to do something, and then she's able to complete it on her own with ease. She has a solid understanding of shapes and is also doing well with more complex column addition and subtraction. We have also looked at some simple divisions and she got the logic behind them.
Astrid occasionally mixes up operation signs—for example, she might use addition instead of multiplication. We'll focus on this in our next session. She does remember how to do multiplication but could benefit from a bit more practice to reinforce her understanding.
